Asus leader in motherboards, laptops and graphics cards. A few months ago, it announced the release of the first “ cheap ” 4K / UHD monitor with an IPS panel. This is the Asus PB279Q model aimed at both professional users and gamers.
Among its most important features we find its resolution 3840 x 2160, 100% RGB color gamut and the mentioned 10-bit IPS panel, DisplayPort 1.2 connectivity and Mini DisplayPort these outputs will allow us to get the maximum visual performance (60Hz).
We thank Asus for trusting the product for its analysis:

Many of you will wonder what resolution you have or what is the best. The standard is the 1920 × 1080 also known as FULL HD, then we move on to the 2K screens: 2560 × 1440 and the latter as the 4K 3840 × 2160.
This specific model is positioned at the intermediate point between Full HD and 2K.
Asus PB279Q
Asus presents its product in a package made up of a bulky cardboard box and with a not very remarkable design. In it we can see the main specifications and the content of its interior. Below we detail their Bundle:
- Asus PB279Q monitor. Power cord. DVI cable for connection. Manual and quick guide.
The Asus PB279Q is a monitor designed for professional use and gaming, therefore it has 27 inches and a resolution of 3840 × 2160. This size is not the standard for this 4K / UHD resolution, they are normally 28 inches, although personally we hardly find any differences. It has a size of 74.5 x 28.5 x 45 cm and a weight around 10kg. As in 2K monitors and now in 4K we must be careful since the same is something big for our desktop.
It comes equipped with a high quality, color fidelity 10-bit matte IPS panel. It has a maximum brightness of 300 cd / m with a contrast ratio of 1000: 1. By default it is quite well calibrated and it is not necessary to use a colimeter, if we already have it, it is recommended to make this modification. As you can see in the following image, the quality of the panel is excellent and with any angle we will have enough color fidelity.
Its OSD is quite friendly and allows us to change all kinds of tones, contrast, brightness, sRGB colors and other settings.
One of its great advantages over other brands is that the base is very robust and allows us to adjust the monitor to our needs, both in inclination and height. It also includes a very useful pivotable option to use our monitor for reading or graphic design.
On the connections we find the following scheme
- Output signal: HDMI / MHL, DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort Input signal: 3.5mm Mini-Jack Audio: 3.5mm Mini-Jack (for HDMI & DisplayPort only)
Final words and conclusion
The Asus PB279Q is a 4K / UHD monitor with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 and a size of 27 inches. Given its dimensions it is somewhat smaller than the rest of the family in the sector, but its great advantage is that it is very comfortable. It includes a 10-bit IPS panel and the image quality is extremely good. I love its base as it allows us to raise, lower and flip the monitor at our whim. Nothing to do with what we have seen previously with LG or Samsung.
It incorporates a pretty good OSD system, allowing us to change any monitor settings. In addition, it has excellent input and output connections: HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI… One more point in favor is the incorporation of two internal 2W speakers ideal for office use.
Our gaming experience has been extraordinary to either Left 4 Dead, Metro or Counter Strike. To play this resolution we must use a fairly powerful graphics system, as it is currently a SLI of GTX970 or GTX980 to enjoy a quality of 40/50 FPS. However, if we want image quality and play sporadic games we can lower the resolution to FULL HD since the scaling is perfect.
WE RECOMMEND YOU The layout of the Asus AMD X470 motherboards is shownIn short, if you are looking for a good, beautiful and high quality 4K monitor , the Asus PB279Q is the perfect candidate. It is currently in online stores (Aussar) for a price of € 848.
