Asus could sue its competitors for copying its oc socket
With the launch of the new Intel haswell -E platform, motherboards with x99 chipset and LGA 2011-3 socket arrived to receive them, Asus offers an improved version of the socket that it has named “OC socket” (with a patent pending) and its rivals They have started copying it, especially Gigabyte which has already announced that it will have an “OC socket”.
Asus realized that the new Intel Haswell-E processors have more contacts than there are pins in the 2011-3 LGA socket, so the main motherboard manufacturer added an extra 6 pins to its 2011-3 LGA socket creating a new socket with a total of 2017 pins called “OC socket”. Those 6 extra pins serve to improve the power of the processor achieving higher and more stable overclocking levels, which is why its rivals have been interested in copying it.
It seems that some employees in the Asus production chain have leaked confidential information to their rivals, it is the conclusion that the company has reached and could take legal action against its competitors for copying its invention, especially Gigabyte, ASRock and MSI.
