Apple has been working with AMD in recent years, proof of this is that the Mac Pro mount a powerful GPU AMD Fire Pro and some models of iMac use graphics processors of those of Sunnyvale. The collaboration between AMD and Apple could go further and those of the bitten apple could use AMD Zen- based APUs in future iMac.
AMD has proven to be able to manufacture custom APUs with great performance, proof of this is that both PS4 and Xbox One mount them, so Apple would have been interested in AMD and its future APUs based on the new high-performance Zen microarchitecture that they should hitting the market throughout 2016. The fact that a company like Apple is interested in AMD Zen is an encouraging sign that the new microarchitecture is going to work really well.
Without a doubt it would be a great opportunity for AMD, Apple is one of the companies with the most followers and one of the ones with the highest sales volume each year. Putting its hardware in the apple products would be a constant source of income for AMD, something they need to compete with rivals like Intel and Nvidia.
The new iMac with AMD Zen APUs would hit the market in around 2017.
