ASUS has announced a new version of its Hyper M.2 x16 PCIe RAID expansion card, where a "V2" has simply been added to differentiate it from its predecessor. There are a few updates this time, including support for AMD Ryzen systems.

ASUS Introduces Hyper M.2 x16 V2 Card with Support for Four M.2 SSDs

Like the original Hyper M.2 x16 card, the V2 supports Intel VROC (Virtual Raid on CPU) technology, which enables NVMe SSDs to directly interact with existing PCIe lanes on the CPU. This allows the Hyper M.2 x16 Card V2 to bypass 32Gbps DMI limitations with a PCH-based RAID implementation on the motherboard. As a result, the V2 card can offer transfer speeds of up to 128Gbps.

Compared to its predecessor, the Hyper M.2 x16 Card V2 has been upgraded with a new two-phase power delivery system, which now sends up to 14W of power to each unit. ASUS has also made some modifications to the layout of the printed circuit board. Instead of locating the four M.2 slots right next to the fan under the heatsink, they have been moved further away so that they are adjacent to the back plate, which should aid airflow.

The Hyper M.2 x16 Card V2 PCIe card only supports PCIe SSD and RAID cards via VROC on Intel X299, Z370 and Z390 motherboards. Another stipulation with VROC is that only Intel SSDs are compatible with the card on Intel motherboards. Of course, there is also compatibility with X399, X470, B450, X370 and B350 motherboards. Although not mentioned, we assume that AMD's new X570 platform will also be supported.

We can now pre-order this card for around $ 64.99.
