ASUS has today released a press release in which they present their new ROG Zephyrus M (GM501) laptop, which is, according to them, the thinnest gaming laptop in the world, and with quite interesting specifications.

ROG Zephyurs M GM501, the new Republic of Gamers

The Zephyrus M makes use of a screen with IPS panel and a refresh rate of 144Hz, 3 ms response time and NVIDIA G-Sync technology, translating all this into an extraordinarily smooth and comfortable gaming experience. The resolution is 1080p, and it covers 72% of the NTSC color gamut, and naturally this panel type offers very good viewing angles.

Regarding performance, we find an Intel Core i7-8750H processor with 6 cores and 12 threads, 16 or 32GB of DDR4 RAM in dual channel and a GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card that suits the 1080p panel at 144Hz extremely well. For storage, the brand has had a maximum speed M.2 NVMe SSD with 512GB capacity, and a 2.5 ″ HDD disk with 1 TB.

Now, the most remarkable thing about this laptop is that it is very thin with between 1.75 and 1.99 centimeters thick, especially since it is a computer with such high performance. Thanks to the so-called “Active Aerodynamic System” (AAS), the rear of the chassis is opened when the laptop is opened, allowing the internal temperature to be reduced by up to 20%, improving the cooling capacity of its 2 high-performance fans. It also makes use of a dust ejection system that can enter through the ventilation holes of the equipment. It is something that sounds very good, but we have to wait to see if it translates into results in reality. If ASUS avoids thermal throttling with such a fine design, it will be really appreciated.

Finally, the team has RGB lighting with Aura Sync technology, exclusive software to switch between the integrated and dedicated GPU (energy saving), a very good connectivity except for the lack of Thunderbolt, and a 55Wh battery that could offer good performance for office use but as with all notebooks of this type it probably won't last long in demanding games.
