Asus already spoke about this Asus ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 router in the month of January and it has finally been released to users during the Computex 2019 event. Asus is one of the brands that has brought the most novelties, although this router will not be the most innovative, since it does not have Wi-Fi 6

Asus ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 a designer Wi-Fi 5 router for gaming

After the launch of powerful and colossal routers with Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax protocol) such as the Rapture GT-AX11000 that we analyzed here a few months ago, Asus also wanted to expand this Rapture range with another somewhat more moderate potential equipment, although of course also in price.

And it is that not all users can pay the close to 400 euros that the Rapture model top of the range is worth, so the brand has decided to add this equipment that also offers very good benefits in Wi-Fi AC that are still the majority of customers who we have in our house, and it has also added an impressive gaming design.

And expanding on the design, this Asus ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 we can place it both horizontally and vertically thanks to the support foot it has. In the upper area we have the “ROG” logo and a wide diagonal line with AURA Sync LED lighting, manageable from the Asus firmware.

In terms of its hardware, the truth is that it has enough power thanks to its main CPU Broadcomm 64-bit and 2 cores at 1.8 GHz and two other support to manage the Wi-Fi connection in addition to a RAM of 512 MB. The main CPU will be in charge of managing a total of 4 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports along with the WAN port and two USB ports, one of them 3.1 Gen1 and the other 2.0.

Regarding Wi-Fi connectivity, we have a total of four antennas, 3 outdoor and one indoor, which can offer us a 3 × 3 connection at 750 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz frequency and 2167 Mbps on the 4 × 4 connection on the 5 GHz frequency. MU-MIMO technology has been implemented for Wi-Fi –AC with 1024-QAM frames and on the 160 MHz frequency.

Like any other brand-class Wi-Fi router, we will have the AiProtection function, support for AiMesh, and the possibility of creating dedicated VPN networks. Additionally, Asus has upgraded the router's QoS system to offer up to 90% dedicated gaming bandwidth.
