We are in the middle of the RGB lighting era, all manufacturers put their best effort to offer very advanced lighting systems in both hardware and peripherals. An example of this is Asus ROG Aura Terminal, a four-channel RGB controller that will allow us to enjoy a large amount of highly configurable lighting in our gaming environment.
You want to know more? Discover all its secrets with our analysis in Spanish. Let's start!
First of all, we thank Asus for the trust placed in giving us the product for analysis.
Unboxing and design
Asus ROG Aura Terminal comes perfectly protected inside a high-quality cardboard box, and based on the typical print from the company's ROG series, resulting in a black and red color scheme.
When we open the box we find the following content:
- One Asus ROG AURA terminal controller Three extension cables of 120 cm2 RGB LED strips of 30cm with 15 LEDs each 1 RGB LED strip of 60 cm RGB strips with 30 LEDs One microUSB cable to USB 2.0 header One microUSB cable to USB 2.0 type AUn adapter Power 45W One 4-pin DC-in to Molex cable Quick Start Guide Two ROG clamps One Asus ROG logo sticker
Asus ROG Aura Terminal is an RGB control module that will allow us to manage a maximum of four RGB LED strips in a very comfortable way, more than enough to provide the best aesthetic for our entire setup. Thanks to its four channels, it will allow us to manage a maximum of 210 LED diodes, and a maximum of approximately 90 diodes in each of the four LED strips. This means that if we mount more than two LED strips we will not be able to use the maximum of 90 LEDs that each channel supports. The controller Asus ROG Aura Terminal includes the ROG logo that is part of the lighting system, Asus has taken care of every detail.
The extender cables are very long, which makes the installation of the LED strips where we want something very simple, in this sense Asus is an important step ahead of the competition, which offers much shorter extenders.
The controller is made of aluminum, with a brushed finish that looks great and makes it even very robust peripheral, which will help keep it looking new for a long time. Asus has included screw holes that allow it to be installed in a 2.5-inch hard drive bay.
All lighting management is done through the Asus Aura Sync application, which has a very clear and intuitive interface to make it very easy to use. This application allows us to choose between 16.8 million colors, as well as various light effects. Its custom mode will allow us to customize the lighting of each of the diodes. Its connection to the motherboard can be done through a standard USB 2.0 port or through a header on the motherboard. Once configured, everything is kept in the memory of the Asus ROG Aura Terminal controller , so that we can disconnect it from the motherboard and feed it from the PC power supply or the included 45W adapter, all the configuration will be kept.
Asus ROG Aura Terminal is designed to be used primarily with RGB LED strips attached to the back of a monitor, its Halo technology enhances screen action by emitting a glow on the wall or surface behind the screen. Halo offers a much more natural and immersive viewing experience than a desk lamp or dimmed lights.
Halo software works by taking into account the data flowing between the GPU and the screen, analyzing the sequence to reproduce the most suitable color on the attached RGB strips. All of this happens in real time with little impact on system resources. Halo also has the advantage of being software independent, meaning it can be used to enhance multimedia content or any game title.
In addition to the Halo effect, Asus ROG Aura Terminal also works in conjunction with a broad Aura Sync ecosystem that already includes more than 100 devices. It can be placed inside the PC or on the desktop, expanding the options to personalize your environment.
Installation and software
The Asus ROG Aura Terminal allows us to install it in two ways:
- ROG Terminal on our desk: Power from the light current and the transmission of information is done through a USB connection from the I / O panel of our motherboard.ROG Terminal inside: We will use a MOLEX as a feeder and we will do the transmission by an internal USB 2.0 connector. We have seen this in quite a few similar devices.
At all times we can choose when to turn on the controller with the on / off button. By the way, when we started it, we fell in love.
We need two applications to control the lighting of the ROG system:
- AURA: It allows us to customize each LED strip to our liking: lighting effects, speed, saturation, brightness, colors, etc… HALO: It allows us to adjust the main characteristics of the controller and disable the LEDs separately.
We would have liked Asus to unify both applications into one. In this way we would have everything at hand and it would be more intuitive. Although as a first experience it has been quite good.
Final words and conclusion about Asus ROG Aura Terminal
Asus has done a good job with the Asus ROG Aura Terminal: an eye-pleasing design, excellent lighting, and a very clear instruction manual.
As we have seen, we have used a Full ROG device: Asus 4K Monitor with LED strips + X470 Crosshaire motherboard. The combination and lighting effects have gone hand in hand. If we had accompanied him with his gaming peripherals, the feeling would have been extraordinary.
At the moment we do not know price or availability. Although if we already have a first review among the media, it would not be unusual for us to see it for sale in the main online stores in the coming months. If they launch it with a good price, it will surely have a lot of appeal among lovers of the Republic of Gamers series.
