Well today we present you the review of the Asus ROG Delta, the new generation Asus headset that is emerging as one of its top range with the ROG Strix Fusion. It has a design optimized for comfort similar to the Delta Core version but with much more technology inside thanks to a Quad ESS ES9218 SABER, the best on the market working through USB-C connectivity and compatible with PC and PS4. Another novelty is its RGB LED lighting system and detachable analog microphone

Will the price justify the quality of your sound? Well that's what we'll see in this review, so let's go there!

Before we start, we thank Asus for giving us this headset for our review.

Asus ROG Delta technical characteristics

Unboxing

The Asus ROG Delta is a headset in which Asus has combined all its experience in other models to create a leading product in the current scene, which will not be fooled by the apparently simplistic and restrained design, because they will surely surprise you a lot. But let's not advance events and start with their Unboxing.

We have in our hands a high-level presentation that the brand currently uses for its new products, cheap or expensive, never neglected, thus demonstrating the brand they are. Well, it is built with rigid cardboard of these heavy and solid ones with a vinyl coating that gives color to the whole, specifically, very dark red and very matt gray.

In the front we have a photo of the headphones, specifically their illuminated pavilion. At the back we have attached more small photos explaining their novelties and most notable features.

But what interests us is inside, so we are going to open this case-type box to find ourselves in the first instance with a headset perfectly placed on a custom mold made of rough plastic. Under this mold we have the rest of the USB Type-C connection cable along with the other accessories. To make sure nothing is missing here is the short list:

Design

Well this is the most advantageous position to explain in more detail the design of these Asus ROG Delta. This new generation of headphones stands out for separating its circumaural design from the typical oval and round ones, being in this case a half-circle structure. The advantage of this configuration is that it provides a more optimized space where our ears fit exactly without any sound escaping us.

This will also help to considerably reduce the weight to just 387 grams, considerably less than other Premium headphones. As for materials, the truth is that they are exactly the same as those of the Delta Core version, that is, a metallic gray plastic car house with part of the pavilions in a matte black finish. Giving it a sober and quite elegant appearance, and far from the typical gaming configurations. But be careful, because we will have RGB lighting on the Asus logo and on the periphery of the gray triangle.

The headband on which the canopies hang is a single bridge, which will allow us a better placement on the head, especially more forceful than the typical double bridge that always tend to be poorly adjusted and with the feeling that it is we will fall. In my point of view it is the right decision.

In addition, the structure will allow us to move the headset in all three directions of the space for maximum adaptability and support. Let me explain, we have a joint that connects the pavilions to the headband that allows us to rotate the helmet about 130 degrees on the vertical axis. To this we add the two lateral grips to the canopy itself that make them rotate about 15 degrees horizontally.

To this we must add the fact of being able to increase the circumference of the headband about 5 cm on each side, to make a total of 10 cm, more than enough for practically any user. In the photos it is clearly seen that the chassis that holds the entire system is made of steel with a brushed finish.

In fact, this steel plate is really closed in its curvature, which makes keeping the two pavilions completely glued to each other as long as we don't have the Asus ROG Delta placed on our head. It seems like a simple aesthetic idea, but it is very useful when it comes to adjusting the helmets to the head, since they are much better stuck and supports abrupt movements of our head without moving.

Focusing more on the headband, we have it almost entirely covered in faux leather slightly padded on the outside and with the slogan "Republic of gamers" clearly visible. In the interior area and that makes contact with our head we also have the same finish.

But of course, we need comfort, so a foam band has been introduced throughout the interior that appears to be made of visco-elastic material or the like. Personally I did not like one thing, and that is that the thickness of this foam is much less than that of the Delta Core model, and being this much more expensive, it should be at least the same as the lower model.

We will take a closer look at the pads of the Asus ROG Delta circumaural canopies, and we do see a good improvement in quality compared to the Delta Core model. In this case we have a very good quality synthetic leather finish and very well finished seams with a shiny appearance. And covering the speaker area we have a fine textile mesh with the Asus logo.

The most important thing is that it has a very good, soft and abundant padding that ensures perfect insulation from outside noise. In addition, they are quite wide in width, which suits us especially for the winter, but they are not too deep, only 19 mm. As for the general measures of these pavilions, they are 105 mm for the flat part, and 90 mm for the curved part, exactly the same as those of the Delta Core.

And just in case we are not convinced by this configuration, Asus has added to the bundle a set of ROG Hybrid pads that in this case are made of fabric in the area of contact with the skin and synthetic leather on the inside. It is true that they do not isolate the sound as well as the others, but they are much cooler for the summer and long hours of use.

In addition, we have the advantage that the depth increases to 2.5 mm, giving us a better separation from the ear of the speaker. For my taste they are the ones I would use daily.

As for the installation method, we only have to remove the pads being careful not to break their elastic circle when pulling them out of the plastic mold. Then we will place the others carefully doing the reverse procedure. The truth is that it is somewhat tedious especially at first, but with patience everything is achieved.

With the microphone plugged into its 3.5mm Jack port, we see a few images of the lighting system working. It is compatible with Asus AURA RGB technology, so we can manage it in colors and animations with the respective software, and also synchronize them with other compatible Asus devices.

You really feel great about this lighting, a minimalist and lightly loaded design, as shown in the headset design philosophy.

Internal features and experience

Let's see below in more detail the technical characteristics of the speakers and the microphone that gives life to these Asus ROG Delta.

And starting with the transducers, we have a 50mm membrane diameter vibrating thanks to the action of high quality neodymium magnets judging by how good these speakers sound. They present a frequency response of between 20 Hz and 40, 000 Hz, in practice a human being is capable of listening in a spectrum of between 20 and 20, 000 Hz, so reaching higher frequencies only serves to provide benefits in a pure state. The impedance is around 32 Ω.

But the most important thing lies not in the speakers themselves, but in the analog-digital converter (DAC) that is inside. Remember that they offer USB connectivity, so we are not using the internal DAC of the motherboard, but an exclusive one installed by Asus. And in this case we have one of the highest performance on the computing market, the Quad ESS ES9218 SABER DAC chip. It offers us four cores that process the bass, mid, mid-treble, and treble frequencies separately.

The result is an impressive sound quality, and much better than that of the Delta Core, with a perfect balance between frequencies and also some very deep and forceful recordings that make us improve the immersion. The frequency spectrum makes us listen to every detail with great force, not losing the distortion even at quite high volumes.

In addition, an internal audio bypass system in the sound chamber has been designed to separate the bass from the treble and mid frequencies. In this way, the entire sound package is capable of reaching a sensitivity of 127 dB SNR, a level rarely seen in a headset of this type. There is only one negative aspect, that the lighting and the DAC heat the pavilions.

The second element of interaction is the microphone, which is offered in a detachable configuration through an analog 3.5 mm Jack connector that will be directly mounted on the left canopy. It offers a frequency response of between 100 and 10, 000 Hz and a sensitivity of -40 dB. For practical purposes the benefits are identical to the Core model, but the integrated DAC makes the sound capture quality rise considerably, eliminating more background noise and offering more clarity in the voice and even being perfectly functional for streaming or video recording in an amateur environment.

The microphone rod is 125 mm long and has a rubber coating that allows the system to be moved freely to place it in the desired position thanks to a metallic articulated system inside. It has a great finish, which gives us the feeling of long-term durability.

Connection and buttons

In the left earphone of Asus ROG Delta is where we will find everything really interesting in this section. We will have a total of two interaction elements, the first is the most obvious and simple, a switch that enables or disables RGB lighting.

The second consists of a wheel to increase or decrease the volume of the sound. But it is not just any wheel, since the interaction method is by semi-turning forward or backward instead of being a potentiometer.

And where is the mute button for the mic? Since it is in the volume control itself, pushing the button in will activate and deactivate the mute of the microphone.

As for connectivity it is clear, a fixed cable comes out of the headphones with a textile braided coating and a length of 1.5 meters. This cable offers USB Type-C connectivity. And for those who do not have this connector, we also have a second Type-C to USB 2.0 Type-A converter cable that is also 1 meter, so in total they are 2.5 meters long. Compatibility is not too extensive a priori, it is only guaranteed on PC and PS4, it is the small disadvantage of having a USB interface.

Asus ROG Armory Software

It's also worth taking a brief look at the core management software for the Asus ROG Delta. We can find it as always in the support section of the product sheet on the official Asus site.

This software provides us in a single window with enough sound customization options for the headphones. Of course we will have an audio equalizer, and the ability to simulate 7.1 surround sound. We can also modify the microphone volume, depth and bit rate and some elements related to voice and bass.

Final words and conclusion about Asus ROG Delta

We reached the end of the review and it remains to give our conclusion and experience of using these impressive Asus ROG Delta helmets.

And starting with the design, it practically offers us an experience as positive as the Core version, in short, they are almost the same. Very good head support and great adaptability with the pavilions in a half circle and multiple joints. In addition, they are elegant and the lighting gives the Premium touch they needed. The only downside for me is that the headband padding should be higher.

The sound quality is spectacular, the combination of these Asus Essence speakers with the quad-core DAC offers us high sound power, perfect frequency division and above all , impressive bass power to be headphones. And since the soundproofing is so good, even the smallest detail is heard. Great Asus job in my opinion.

We recommend the best gaming headphones on the market

Then we also have good possibilities for management and customization thanks, on the one hand, to the exclusive AURA software for lighting, and to Asus ROG Armory, which provides us with an equalizer and more interesting options. It is something that a USB headset always needs and Asus has fulfilled.

The microphone, despite being the same as the Delta Core, improves greatly in sound capture, this is due to the internal DAC. Now it captures the sound more clearly with better noise suppression, at least that's what I felt when trying it out with Audacity. The control system is very good, we avoid the typical potentiometer that I'm not a fan of and we also implement the mute button on the volume control, comfortable and intuitive.

And finally we come to the price section, and this is where many hearts will break. Asus ROG Delta is practically the top range of the brand, and it is priced at 210 euros. It is expensive, yes, but exactly like other range caps, and in fact it has left us with such good feelings that for us it is a recommended product for those who can afford it. If you are looking for the best, Asus in this case has it.
