We continue to analyze the new Asus motherboards for the Intel Coffee Lake platform, this time, we bring you the Asus ROG Strix B360-F, a proposal with a B360 chipset for users who are not interested in either overclocking or configurations RAID. Like all ROG series motherboards, it is manufactured with very good quality components, integrates a great sound system and an advanced RGB lighting system to achieve the best aesthetics.
Ready to see our analysis? Let's start!
First of all, we thank Asus for the trust placed in ceding the product to us for analysis.
Asus ROG Strix B360-F technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
Asus offers us its motherboard in a cardboard box with a high quality printing and based on the black and red colors, the corporate of this brand. On the front of the box we are shown high-quality images and their compatibility with Virtual reality.
While in the rear area, as usual all its most important features and specifications of this motherboard.
Once we open the box, we find the motherboard perfectly protected by an anti-static bag so that it reaches the hands of the end user in perfect condition. It consists of the following bundle:
- Two sets of SAT cables RGB lighting cable Flanges Instruction manual Stickers Door sign
Asus ROG Strix B360-F is a board almost identical to the Asus ROG Strix H370-F that we analyzed previously, since both are based on the same PCB so the differences between them will be what marks the passage from a H370 chipset to the B360. The B360 chipset is one of the most basic of the Coffee Lake platform, this solution does not allow any type of overclocking, nor is it compatible with RAID technology, the latter is the main difference between this motherboard and the Asus ROG Strix H370- F.
Like the entire Strix series, the most predominant colors are black and metallic gray in its cooling system. While the PCB is black and incorporates a special screen printing that we had not seen in the Z370 series. It looks very cool!
Without RGB is not GAMING? Well, to promote the aesthetics of the Asus ROG Strix B360-F it is seasoned by the advanced Asus Aura Sync lighting system, as you all know, it is a highly configurable RGB system both in color and lighting effects. The application will also allow us to synchronize the lighting of all Aura Sync products, so that we achieve a truly incredible appearance on our entire PC with a palette of up to 16.8 million colors.
To achieve an even more personalized aesthetic, Asus ROG Strix B360-F supports 3D printing, this will allow the user to manufacture their own parts to customize the appearance of the motherboard. A great idea for all those who have one of these modern printers.
To power the processor, a 9 + 2 power supply system has been installed, these are divided into 8 for the processor, 2 for the iGPU and 1 for memory. As usual in its mid-range and high-end motherboards, it uses components with “Super Alloy Power 2” technology: high-quality Japanese capacitors, CHOKES and VRM.
Above the VRM is a large aluminum heatsink, into which the Asus Aura Sync RGB LED lighting system is integrated. As we see Asus takes great care of aesthetics and above all incorporates components of the highest quality.
Next to the LGA 1151 socket we find four compatible DDR4 DIMM slots with a maximum capacity of 64 GB of memory at a speed of 2666 MHz in Dual Channel. As we have already explained in other articles, both the H370 and B360 motherboards with chipset do not allow activating the XMP profile (they are overlapped).
We also highlight that the Asus ROG Strix B360-F features two PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots, one of them reinforced in steel. This helps to have greater slot resistance of up to 83% to smoothly withstand the weight of the most powerful graphics cards on the market. The second slot does not have this boost, and its electrical performance is x4, enough for 2-way CrossFire or SLI multi-GPU solutions. There is also a PCI Express 3.0 x4 slot for attaching an expansion card.
We now turn to see the storage, as we have said before, this Asus ROG Strix B360-F motherboard does not support RAID technology , if you want to learn more about it you can read this post.
Once this is clarified, we highlight that the motherboard offers us two M.2 32 GB / s slots compatible with the NVMe protocol for high-performance SSD drives or Intel Optane memories. Like the H370 it incorporates a heatsink to lower the temperatures of these hot units.
Along with these slots, it offers us six SATA III 6 GB / s ports so that we can install various mechanical hard drives or SSDs based on this more classic interface.
As for the sound system, we meet again with SupremeFX technology and the new S1220 codec, it is a very good quality sound engine, which has been designed to avoid interference and thus annoying electrical noise. Asus has included two headphone amplifiers, so you will have no trouble using your best quality studio headphones. To make matters worse, it also includes compatibility with Sonic Radar III and Sonic Studio III technologies, these offer us 3D positioning of enemies with great precision, and will allow us to take full advantage of this sound technology with an advanced equalizer and other features.
The back plate is integrated in the base plate. This type of detail is a pleasure, since it saves us time when installing the motherboard in our chassis.
As rear connections we come across:
- PS connection / 26 USB connections Displayport HDMIDVIUSB Type C One Gigabit connection Sound connections

To check the stability of the i7-8700k processor in stock values and the motherboard we have stressed with Prime 95 Custom and air cooling. The graphics that we have used is an Nvidia GTX 1060, without further delay, let's see the results obtained in our tests with a 1920 x 1080 monitor.

A BIOS nailed to that of the Z370 ROG series but without the overclock functionalities. It allows us to monitor temperatures and voltages of the main components, create profiles for the fans, change the order of priority of the storage disks, update BIOS and Asus' own tools
Final words and conclusion about Asus ROG Strix B360-F
Asus has done a great job with the Asus ROG Strix B360-F. This is an ideal mid-range motherboard for those users who don't mind not overclocking, not using the RAID options (limited by the chipset), having fewer USB 3.0 connections than an H370 / Z370 and thus saving a few euros on a Low Cost Gaming PC.
In our tests we have used the powerful i7-8700K at its 4.6 GHz, 32 GB of RAM at 2666 MHz (it is the maximum that this range of motherboards offers) and a 6 GB Nvidia GTX 1060. The results are as expected and are hardly far behind the Z370.
We recommend reading the best motherboards on the market
At storage level it has 6 SATA connections, double M.2 NVMe connection (one of them with heatsink) and a sound card with integrated DAC. What more can we ask for less? Well we really miss a Wifi + Bluetooth 5.0 connection on this motherboard.
Its sale price will range between 90 to 100 euros and its availability will be imminent in the main online stores. We think it is one of the great options that the market currently offers?
