Asus USB 3.1 Enclosure

Asus presents its storage unit in a very compact cardboard box. On its cover we find the name of the product and the logo of the company. While, on the back cover we have the most important technical characteristics of the product.

Once we open the box we are faced with excellent protection. Your bundle is made up of:

  • Asus USB 3.1 Enclosure Connection Cable Quick Guide.

The Asus USB 3.1 Enclosure is a black brushed 2.5 ″ aluminum case. We easily distinguish the Lian Li EX-M2 and inside there are two disks with mSATA connection in Raid 0 that offer us a bandwidth of 10Gbps.

I would like to detail that the aluminum case is protected by a rubber cover that in case of falling helps to cushion the blow. It is also important to know that the USB 3.1 cable offers both power and disk power without using two cables.

Once we open the box we find two Sandisk SD7SFS-256G-112 mSATA disks of 250GB each, these are connected in RAID 0 through the ASMedia ASM1352R USB 3.1 controller to SATA III.

In this image you can see how it looks on our desktop.

For the tests we will use the native controller of the x99 chipset on a high-performance motherboard: Asus Z170 Deluxe that natively incorporates the USB 3.1 controller. Our tests will be performed with the following performance software.

  • AS SSD Benchmark 1.7.4 ATTO Disk Benchmark. 30GB file copy to disk.

Final words and conclusion

Asus Enclosure 3.1 is the first device to get the most out of the new USB 3.1 connection. at 10Gb / s. In our tests it could not have left us with a better taste in the mouth and it was not for less because it included two Sandisk SD7SFS disks in RAID 0. We have achieved very high reads and writes, imagine what speeds you would be able to achieve if you implement the new versions with M.2…

This new design is ideal as a drive to use on any PC or MAC with all your personal files and programs. To encrypt them, you can use tools like bitlocker and we will have an excellent disk for any PC with "Windows To Go".

Currently the price of the unit is unknown and if it will finally reach our stores. But once again Asus shows us that it is at the forefront of technology.
