We really wanted to try a 2.5K monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate ! On this occasion, we have come to analyze the Asus XG32VQ with a 34-inch panel , 2560 x 1440 pixels, Aura Sync and AMD FreeSync.

Wanting to know more about him? Well let's get started!

First of all, we thank Asus for the trust placed in ceding the product to us for analysis.

Asus XG32VQ technical features

Unboxing and design

The Asus XG32VQ is presented perfectly protected in a cardboard box that shows us an image of the monitor and the name of the model screen printed in large letters. Once we open the box we find the monitor perfectly arranged and protected by two giant pieces of cork.

In this way the brand ensures that it does not move during transport and that it reaches the end user's hands in perfect condition.

It is time to take out the monitor and we are on a second floor, in this we find all the accessories such as the base and the different cables attached. In his bundle he incorporates:

  • Asus XG32VQ monitor . Power cord.Instruction manual and quick guide.HDMI, DisplayPort and USB cable. Two acrylic bases with ROG logoEmbellishment for the monitor base.

This is the first view we have of the Asus XG32VQ monitor, the mounting of the base is very simple since we only have to attach the base to the support that is already attached and then fix it to it. It is a spectacular monitor and it takes a fairly large table (especially deep) to optimally enjoy it.

As we can see the Asus XG32VQ has opted for a fairly common base in this XG series. It is fixed and only allows us to regulate the monitor in height, inclination and angle of rotation. At no time does it allow us to place it vertically, this would be great for long hours of work. But it has a reason… being a curved monitor 1800R would leave a lot to be desired in this regard.

The back is compatible with the VESA 100 x 100 wall mount standard if we remove the bracket that is attached. It's hard? No, not at all, it has a little button that you press and it just comes out. Also comment that it has RGB Aura lighting controllable via software. If your hardware (motherboard, graphics card, RAM…) or peripherals with this technology you can synchronize it and make it go at the same time. Personally it seems to me a good initiative, to avoid sticking LED strips behind the monitor?

As for the panel, it has an area of 80.1 cm which translates to 34 inches and a 16: 9 format. A size that has established itself as one of the best for an enthusiastic gaming monitor.

This panel has VA technology, which gives us much more intense colors than TN and IPS monitors, making them ideal for enjoying more colorful video games. The viewing angles are 178º in both planes, so we can share the content with someone who is by our side without problems . In addition, our experience with their colors has been excellent and they offer great image quality taking into account the pros and cons of a VA panel.

The rest of the features of this panel include a 2.5K resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a maximum brightness of 300 cd / ㎡, a contrast of 3000: 1, a response time of 4 ms gray to gray, a color depth. 8 bit, which is not bad. And if you are a designer, it also has 125% coverage of the sRGB spectrum.

It features a 144Hz refresh rate, which is a blast for most enthusiastic gamers. In my case, I come from an Asus PG348Q and the difference between one model to another is quite noticeable. Although personally I like more the quality of the panel, resolution and structure regarding this new model. Although if we think about it coldly, it is another superior segment of monitor…

We were very pleased to see Asus opting for the integration of an Adaptive-Sync module. This means that this monitor is fully compatible with AMD FreeSync technology. If you have a high-end AMD graphics card you can get more stability and graphical use.

Detail of the joystick of the control panel. As always, we consider it a success by Asus. Super comfortable and especially fast when adjusting values on our new monitor.

Among its novelties we find ultra-reduced blue light technology that protects against this type of light harmful to your sight, and allows us to adjust up to four levels. That is, you do not need to buy those glasses that are pure marketing…

I would also like to highlight the possibilities that GameVisual offers. From the factory it presents 6 profiles that allow adjusting to different common usage scenarios: FPS, sRGB, RTS / RPG, Cinema, Racing and landscapes. Lastly, it should be noted that it incorporates the exclusive GamePlus technology that offers an improvement in the vision of games with its three profiles (Crosshair / Timer / FPS Counter / Screen alignment).

Finally we point out its various connections in the form of an HDMI port , DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort 1.2, minijack 3.5, 2 USB 3.0 and the power outlet.

OSD menu

From the OSD menu and its fantastic joystick we can adjust a lot of parameters. Among them the blue light, the color gamut, image, specific gaming specifications, turning on / off the RGB lights and the base light. As Asus has always accustomed us, it is one of the best OSD we tested. Good job!

Final words and conclusion about Asus XG32VQ

The Asus XG32VQ arrives to break the market for gaming monitors. Given its price and its main characteristics: 2560 x 1440 pixels, brightness of 300 cd / m2, AMD Freesync, 8-bit VA panel, good angles, 144 Hz and a response time of 4 ms, it offers us a top-of-the-range monitor.

Here we leave our assessment in which we consider three key aspects for a good monitor.

  • Office and graphic design: I particularly have the PG348Q and I am delighted with it. It allows me to work with two windows open, this way I don't need to have two monitors to organize my work and I can even edit images quickly. With the XG32VQ it offers us the same functionalities but with a lower resolution. Games: At the gaming level it is great, few buts we can find this panel and its refresh rate. Honestly, the 144 Hz, we need at least a GTX 1080 Ti to have it 100% stable. Surely with a GTX 1070 Ti or GTX 1080 it is fully functional too, but we no longer have them in our test bench… and we have not been able to test it. Movies and series: Perhaps this is the least attractive point of the monitor. It's going well, but I don't really like watching series and movies with a VA panel. Although honestly after a while you get used to it and the viewing angles are quite good.

We also liked that it incorporates an ultra-thin frame. With this we managed to mount a configuration of 2 or three monitors. Although really, in this model, we would need a 2.5 or 3 meter table to take advantage of three monitors of these characteristics.

It is important to remind you that we have the integration of a Freesync module to benefit from its benefits if you have an AMD RX VEGA graphics card. Since the RX 580 falls short enough for this resolution at 144 Hz. In case you have a GTX card you will not be able to benefit from Freesync (for the moment).

We have been very surprised that the monitor costs 645 euros. We believe that it is one of the best monitors on the market in its range. And that it is a 100% recommended option, do not hesitate and go for it, you will not be disappointed.
