Technical characteristics Asustor AS6302T

Unboxing and design

The Asustor AS6302T comes in a compact cardboard box. On its cover we find an image of the product and the model in question at hand.

While on the sides they detail the main technical characteristics of the product.

Once we open the box we are inside:
  • Asustor AS6302T. Power supply and cable. Instruction manual. Quick guide. Screws. Two sets of network cables. CD with software for installation.

The Asustor AS6302T is a double bay NAS equipment built by a black plastic external structure and which internally gives it consistency thanks to the incorporation of a metallic structure.

The Asustor AS6302T has dimensions of 163.5 x 108 x 230 mm and a weight that ranges from 2 kg. Its structure looks firm and is very pleasing to the eye.

When choosing a good NAS, we need to know carefully all its internal components, since they are the ones that will limit us in power and we can calculate an approximate consumption in low and maximum performance. It has an Intel Celeron J3455 processor manufactured in a 14 nm lithograph at a speed of 1.5 GHz that with the turbo goes up to 2.30 GHz and a 2MB cache memory. Its graphics card is capable of playing Full HD, 2K and 4K content without any problem in H264 and H265 (still to be debugged), since it has the interesting Intel HD Graphics 520.

Regarding memory, it has an amount of 2 GB of DDR3L RAM and we can quickly update it to 8GB. This will be very useful when we want to use the equipment as a virtualization system or a high-performance network equipment.

Now we look at the front area. We find a double bay for the two 2.5 ″ or 3.5 ″ hard drives that supports a maximum size of 10 TB. These are fully removable and that we can remove even hot.

Among its connections we find the power button and the classic quick backup along with USB 3.0. It is also complemented by 5 LED status indicators.

Both sides have small vertical holes that help improve cooling.

While in the rear connections we come across a small fan in charge of expelling all the hot air outside. It also complements it with a rear HDMI connection, three USB 3.0 connections (including 1 Type-C), a sound connection and two 10/100/1000 (Gigabit) LAN connections.

Finally some images of its interior. Expandable memory and more than efficient heatsink for excellent cooling. How good looking this NAS is!

Installation and operating system

Once our hard drives are installed on our Asustor AS6302T server, we will hit the power button. To start with the configuration we have to download the ACC application that will be in charge of searching for the NAS in our network.

Installation is done quickly and easily. It asks us if we are going to mount RAID or simple drives, username / password and network configuration. Everything that can be asked of a system of this category.

To carry out the administration of the equipment it is as simple as entering any web browser: dip number: 8000 we login and we will find the entire web interface.

There are several pre-installed applications by default, but if you are looking for something more specific, it offers us a small store (all free) that incorporates many very useful applications. For example we can take advantage of and upload different files / folders to the cloud, download torrent, multimedia content or install an antivirus to keep us safe from any malicious file.

Performance and consumption test

To test the performance of the NAS we have used the well-known Crystal Disk Mark software that measures the read and write rates of the hard drive, we have exactly used two Western Digital hard drives to test the maximum that the NAS offers per network. Other of our tests has been to copy several files with different sizes and the result has been as expected with 108 MB / s.

The consumption tests have been taken directly on the wall, with the NAS plug on the meter. We have tested with one and two 3TB Western Digital Red mechanical hard drives and the result can be seen below:

Final words and conclusion about Asustor AS6302T

Although Asustor does not have as much name in Spain as other manufacturers, the level is very similar to the rest of NAS that we have tested and offers the European market. We believe that the Asustor AS6302T is a great choice for any home or small office user as it has nothing that NAS does not offer at a slightly higher cost.

Your operating system plays multimedia, torrent downloads, backups, shares photos or even creates virtual machines to test with Linux servers or operating systems like Windows 10.

The model we have tested has a price of about 400 euros approximately. Taking into account everything it offers us, it has a more than acceptable price. Although there is a lot of rivalry in this price range and we will have to study very well what we really need.
