Atari confirms that it will launch a new console
Table of contents:
Atari was a huge name in the video game industry, but this was true a few decades ago. Even Steve Jobs started his career working for Atari, to give you an idea of the age of this company. In recent years, Atari has remained rather present as a simple brand and memory in the video game universe, but it seems that now it is ready to return to the market with a new console.
The new AtariBox could be an emulator type Nintendo NES mini
After it was reported earlier this week that Atari may be preparing a new game console and that he would be looking for new developers, these rumors were finally confirmed by the company's CEO.
Fred Shesnais, CEO of Atari, told GamesBeat that the company is actually developing a new game console, just as the rumors suggested. Although Atari did not make any announcements during the E3 2017 event about the new console, the company has published a short promotional video about it, which you can see a little above.
At the moment there are not too many details to realize what the video is really about, but its YouTube title ("First look: A completely new Atari product. It has been years in the making") could hint at the future console.
The new announcement left us wondering if there really was anything in the box - and if it was a console or an emulator- like system, like the classic NES - so we could enjoy the old Atari games. Many wondered if the AtariBox teaser is true or false, however Chesnais declined to give a description of the new product, although he said it is based on PC technology.
