Earlier this year, the GPU Basemark benchmark tool was released to the world, a multiAPI benchmark that allowed us to test a wide variety of graphical workloads using the Vulkan, OpenGL, and OpenGL ES graphical APIs, giving us the opportunity to show the performance impact of each API using a wide range of hardware.

Basemark GPU 1.1 now with DirectX 12 support

At launch, the tool was compatible with Windows, Android, and Linux operating systems, and promised to add compatibility with iOS / MacOS in the future by integrating the Metal API. DirectX 12 support was also among the promises, as well as general improvements to the tool.

Basemark has confirmed that version 1.1 is out in a matter of hours, which will mean greater compatibility with DirectX 12 and improvements in terms of usability and reliability. Early versions of the Basemark GPU also included exploits that could be used to generate fraudulent scores, issues that we hope will be resolved with version 1.1.

The new version will give us a new opportunity to compare DirectX 12 and Vulkan on Windows 10 computers, allowing us to judge which API is the best option when Basemark runs. The tool uses the Rocksolid motor, designed for industrial applications.

Basemark can be downloaded and used for free not only for Windows, but also for Android and Linux. The tool has two benchmark modes, one in High-Quality Mode and the other in Medium-Quality Mode, the latter designed for mobile phones and tablets.
