The first video games compatible with DirectX 12, Quantum Break, Rise of the Tomb Raider or the recent Forza Motorsport 6 Apex are beginning to arrive, but there is a major new video game that will come with support for this new Microsoft API, Battlefield 1.

Presented during the month of May and then seen at E3 in Los Angeles, the video game developed by DICE will have support for DirectX 11 and DirectX 12, being able to change from one to another from the video options within the video game.

See our guide on The Best Graphics Cards

In the following video published by Digital Foundry we can see Battlefield 1 running on a PC with the maximum configuration and a resolution of 1440p and with DirectX 12 activated, the graphics card chosen was the GTX 1080 accompanied by an Intel i7 Skylake processor. Apparently the implementation of DX12 would not generate too many performance problems in the Closed Beta that Digital Foundry accessed (it would be more lacking with a GTX 1080) but I would not dare to assure you, that will be seen with more exhaustive performance tests.

We know well that graphics cards that are a few years old do not get along very well with this API, so only the new 100% DirectX 12 compatible graphics will be able to get the most out of it. With the implementation of DirectX 12, the intention is to take more advantage of the CPU utilization in video games and that they do not generate bottlenecks, in addition to games accessing low-level hardware, something similar to what Vulkan or the remembered Mantle does (rest in peace).
