It is possible that many of our readers do not know that the DirectX 12 API has different levels of characteristics, this means that a graphics card can be compatible but that it cannot take advantage of a large part of its characteristics, an example of this we have with the Fermi architecture of Nvidia which has recently received compatibility but the features it supports are very limited. Radeon RX Vega will take another step forward in compatibility.

Radeon RX Vega improves DirectX 12 support

Currently Polaris, Maxwell and Pascal are the graphic architectures with the best support for DirectX 12, in the case of Nvidia it is supported up to level 12.1 while AMD complies with 12.0, despite this, AMD offers better support for some of the characteristics of DirectX 12 like Asynchronous Shaders.

It has been confirmed that Radeon RX Vega will have better support for DirectX 12 features, better support than Polaris and that it will include features that even Maxwell and Pascal lack. Among the most important novelties of Vega we will have the Conservative Rasterization Level 3 which will be a huge leap forward for an AMD that has seen how its previous silicons did not have any level of support for this feature. Nvidia Pascal also supports it but at a lower level so AMD will have an advantage in this regard.

The AMD and Nvidia support for DirectX 12 is very good today, although it is not perfect since it is a really new API and it takes work and time to support all its features. We see that Nvidia even offers better support in some aspects than AMD, despite the fact that much effort is put into showing that AMD is much better in DirectX 12 when in reality they are both very similar.
