The Bluboo Edge smartphone was launched at the end of last year. For those who do not know the manufacturer Bluboo, it is a well-known brand that became popular thanks to its low-cost models.

With the new Bluboo Edge the brand shows that it is willing to take risks on the most innovative models, without the price rising to levels unattainable for its target audience. Do you want to know more about this model? Don't miss our review!

Bluboo Edge technical features

Unboxing and design

We see a presentation with a blue box. The letters “Beyond Yourlife” are silk-screened next to the brand's logo.

While in the rear area it indicates all its technical characteristics in detail.

Once we open the box we find:

  • Bluboo Edge smartphone. Quick start guide. Card extractor. USB cable with charger.

The Bluboo Edge's design is fine and elegant. It has curved edges on the front and back, which in addition to giving an air of sophistication, is very comfortable to hold. The device is marked by a metal case and with rounded corners, an interesting camera and the LED flash.

The Bluboo Edge does not offer a symmetrical design, and the placement of many ports and buttons will surprise you. But this does not mean that the Edge is poorly designed. It comes with a metal frame, and although it is not mentioned what material it is made of, it surely refers to the aluminum series that we have seen in other Chinese terminals.

The manufacturer has used CNC cutting and polishing to make the phone look slimmer and more elegant. As a result, the Bluboo Edge comes with a thickness of 0.8mm. Ergonomics is at the highest level.

But perhaps the most interesting feature of this model is the presence of a heart sensor. Therefore, you will not have to buy smartwatches for this purpose, since with the monitor of this smartphone you can lead a healthier life.

As for the location of the different buttons and ports, the Bluboo Edge comes with a 3.5mm jack, a micro USB port and a speaker on the bottom.

The micro SIM card slot is on the top, the volume button on the left side, while the unlock button is placed on the right. Finally, two microphones are placed on top and bottom separately.

In the front area is an 8 megapixel camera along with a speaker above the screen. The Bluboo Edge comes with a single physical start button on the bottom of the front panel, and surprisingly it has a fingerprint reader, which we'll talk about later.

But if you think we are dealing with a simple touch ID, you are wrong. Thanks to new touch technology, you can do a soft touch to use as a back button, or a soft double touch to open the menu. So this is a new and better one-button usage experience instead of the traditional three.

The back of the Bluboo Edge looks no less attractive. Thanks to IML (in-mold labeling) technology, the rear panel looks stereoscopic and displays multi-color visual effects at different viewing angles.

Display and hardware

Despite the low price, the manufacturer did not skimp on building the phone. Sharp's beautiful 5.5 ″ HD multi-touch IPS display is also curved at the edges, making the overall look of the model very close to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge .

This is undoubtedly a very difficult feature to see on cell phones in this price range, even more so by using the Gorilla Glass 4.

The high definition resolution may seem insufficient for the large screen of the smartphone, but the manufacturer has used a technology that improves the final appearance of the image, leaving any pixel absolutely invisible to the human eye.

The screen is developed with OGS technology. As you recall, One Glass Solution (OGS) means that there is no air gap between the touch screen and the display panel. Therefore, saturation and sensitivity are higher due to an improvement in light transmission (more than 90%). In addition, devices with this technology are lighter in weight, due to the lack of an additional layer.

This screen supports up to 5 multi-touch points and is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which means that there are no scratches that could damage it. But there is more: this screen has compatibility with wet hands and gloved hands. Therefore, you will not have to worry when you have wet hands or are wearing gloves, since you can interact seamlessly with the screen.

Hardware

This Chinese phone works with a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor, ARM Mali-T720 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. With these highly balanced specifications, the model exceeds 30, 000 points in the Antutu test , and has already received much praise from the local Chinese media.

The smartphone's RAM is 2 GB and cannot be expanded, but the storage is 16 GB and can be expanded with a microSD card.

Camera

The Bluboo Edge's camera is equipped with auto focus, which is a function that controls and improves the camera's focus, being an outstanding feature of this smartphone.

It has an 8-megapixel front camera and a 13-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash and a Sony sensor with autofocus.

Even though the pixel resolution is mid-level, the Bluboo Edge is able to provide good camera performance thanks to optimized technology.

OS

The Bluboo Edge runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but the Edge's firmware can be updated to a newer version of the operating system. The drastic customization we did not like too much, since we believe that with a more "Google Launcher" style it would gain much more integers and, above all, fluidity of the terminal.

Connectivity and battery

Edge works on 3G and 4G mobile networks. This smartphone has an integrated GPS receiver. This Bluboo smartphone has an FM radio receiver and being quad-band it works in frequency bands of 850, 900, 1800 and 1900.

WE RECOMMEND YOU Microsoft Edge is officially launched based on Chromium

The Bluboo Edge offers bluetooth v4.0, A2DP, and A-GPS, but did not include NFC. The non-removable 2600 mAh Li-Po battery gives the smartphone enough autonomy for moderate use.

In a recent battery test carried out against one of its main competitors, the iPhone 7 Plus, the Bluboo Edge and its 2, 600 mAh battery managed to beat the Apple phablet, which brings a module with 2, 900 mAh.

Although it helps improve 15% of its capacity compared to 4.2v batteries and is thinner, with constant use it must be recharged before the end of the day. As is known, a 5.5-inch screen requires a larger battery, although the resolution helps it perfectly endure the day.

Extra functions

A fingerprint sensor is one of the easiest and safest ways to protect your smartphone. The proximity sensor detects when a user is holding the phone close to their face during a call and turns off the screen to prevent the keypad from being pressed.

The Bluboo Edge includes several other special functions, such as the accelerometer, digital printing, heart rate, light and proximity.

The fingerprint sensor present in the Bluboo Edge is located on the front, on the Home button, and guarantees a release in less than 100 ms, with 360º recognition. It has the ability to memorize up to 5 different fingers and demonstrates a very fast reaction, with great precision.

Final words and conclusion about Bluboo Edge

Once again, Chinese manufacturers surprise us with a really beautiful smartphone with a design very similar to that of the high-end. As you have seen in our photos, it is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge but it is differentiated by its more modest hardware and a higher weight. Fully understandable by costing 5 times less…

Inside it incorporates a 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737T processor, 2GB of RAM, an ARM-Mali T720 MP2 graphics card and a 2600 mAH battery.

The Bluboo Edge is prettier on the outside than on the inside. But yes, considering if it is the first time that you have a curved phone with this brand, it is quite acceptable. On the other hand, we have seen that this manufacturer is capable of providing a cheap phone with great build quality. One of the negative points is the customization of the theme in Android 6, if they put something simpler it would gain much more followers.

So if you want a dual-curved phone (front and back), but have no desire to shell out a fortune, the Bluboo Edge is a great option.
