How to enlarge an image without losing image quality in gimp

Enlarging a photo without quality loss in Gimp is done using the Lanczos resampling algorithm (also called Lanczos2 and Lanczos3). With this feature, you can increase the size of an image up to 300% without (in theory) losing the quality, which is very useful, especially when working with small images. See how to do this.

Step 1. Run Gimp and open the image by clicking on the "file" menu and then "open option";

Step 2. In the "open image" window, go to the folder where the image is, select it and click the "open" button;

Step 3. With the image open, click on the “image” menu and then on the option “resize image…”;

Step 4. Enter the new width or height of the image in pixels (the other parameter will be automatically adjusted). In the "quality" field, click the arrow next to "Interpolation" and select "sync. (Lanczos3);

Step 5. When everything is in the shape you want, click on the “resize” and wait for the completion of the process;

Step 6. When you want to save the new image (preserving the original), you click on the "file" menu and then "export as…";

Step 7. In the “export image” window, find the folder where you want to save the new image, write a name and choose the format (choose well, because there are several).
