We are presented with several options to be able to restore Windows 10 according to the different types of problems that we can find. Let's see each of them and their procedure.

Restore Windows 10 from a restore point

This method is useful when we have installed new updates or some drivers or applications on our computer. Windows may encounter bugs in them or during installation and may require reverting to a stable version of the system.

A restore point is a kind of backup of the operating system that it does when something new is installed on it, such as updates or applications. These are created automatically by Windows if the system protection option is activated. Or they can also be done manually.

The first thing we have to do is write "control panel" in the start menu. After entering inside, write in the search bar "recovery" We go inside and click on "open restore system"

If we do not have the system protection option active we will not be able to continue. In this case we click on the link "system protection"

A window will open in the tab of the same name.

We select the disk where the Windows installation is and click on "Configure…" In the new window we choose "Activate system protection"

To create a restore point immediately we only have to give it in the window before "Create…". A restoration point will be created with the name that we have given it.

We are now ready to go back to the system restore window. We will now find new options:

Recommended restoration, use the last restoration point made by the system. We can also choose a restoration point that we have made.

If we detect affected programs , we will be shown which applications or configurations will be eliminated by applying the system restore point. In our case we want to restore Windows 10 to a point before the VLC installation.

When we agree to make the changes, we just have to click “Next” and accept the changes. Windows 10 will be restored.

Recover Windows 10 with recovery drive

The second option we have will be by creating a Windows recovery drive. We will use a USB device to create it.

A recovery drive is very useful for when our operating system fails to boot and we cannot enter or return to a previous restore point.

You must make the recovery unit in an operating system that does not present failures of this type.

To create the recovery unit we will carry out the following steps:

We go to the beginning and write "create a drive of…" until we get the option to "create a recovery drive" Click on the option marked

We will open a wizard for creating the recovery drive.

If we activate the option that appears in the initial window we will be creating a unit capable of reinstalling the entire operating system. It is recommended to leave it active, but we will need a USB of more than 8 GB. If we deactivate it, only 512 MB will be necessary.

The program will start creating the recovery drive.

If, on a first attempt, the assistant shows that it has not been possible to carry out the unit, try it a second time and it should not cause problems.

After finishing we will get the option "Delete recovery partition". We will select it and give it to delete. This frees up the space that has been used on the hard drive to restore Windows 10.

We will select "solve problems"

We can directly click on "reset this computer", if during the creation of the recovery drive we select the option to make a backup of the files. If we choose "advanced options" we can then choose the option that best suits:

If we had a restore point and the option of active system protection (see previous point) we can choose "System Restore". We can go back to a previous version of Windows 10 Or recover Windows with a system image if we have one.

Recover Windows 10 by resetting the computer.

If we do not have a restore point or do not have a recovery unit, our option may be this.

To use this option Windows 10 must be able to start.

We will go to the beginning and click on the configuration wheel

We will choose the last available option of “Update and security”

We will place ourselves on “Recovery”. We will give you the option to start “Start”

Two different options will be opened:
