Most of us use a single pair of headphones, however, on certain occasions, it may be convenient to be able to use two pairs of headphones (for example, AirPods and Beats) simultaneously with our Mac: in a conference, while traveling in accompanied train or plane so as not to disturb other passengers, etc. Today I'm going to show you how to share the audio from your Mac between two pairs of headphones.

Share the audio from your Mac

The following method should work whether you are using a wired headset and a wireless headset, or if you are using two pairs of Bluetooth headsets (for example, two sets of AirPods), or even multiple pairs.

First of all, make sure the headphones you want to use together work with your Mac via Bluetooth and / or connected via the headphone jack.

With this check (if necessary) start the MIDI Audio Settings application, located in Applications → Utilities.

Click the plus sign (+) at the bottom left of the audio device window and select Create a multiple output device.

Right-click (or Ctrl-click) the multi-output device in the list you just created and select Use this device for sound output. You can also choose to Play Alerts and sound effects using this device from the same menu.

Now check the pairs of headphones you want to use in the list of audio devices. In the event that any of them are wired headphones, select the option “integrated output”.

Select a Master Device from the top dropdown menu.

Check deviation correction for the other device in the list of audio devices.

Now open the System Preferences app and select the Sound section.

Click the output tab and select the multiple output device you have created. From then on, you should be able to use two pairs of headphones simultaneously with your Mac.
