"It is a great moment for the project, since it materializes many of the agreements that were made during the past year, and it does so with the promise of stability, " said Gustavo Niemeyer.
"So you can be sure that the external APIs of the project (the file system design, the snap format, the REST API, etc.) will not be changed from now on, " he added.
What's New in Snappy 2.0
Among the main novelties of Snappy 2.0 we can mention new rich interfaces that allow users to communicate between snaps that control security, improved use of the command line, as well as support for local or remote authentication through Macaroons.
Also, Ubuntu Snappy Core users will be able to better control and monitor the changes in the system, as well as undo those that were caused by reboots or system failures.
The file system design also received improvements, and Snappy 2.0 also has a more modern revision sequence.
Snappy Ubuntu Core is a special version of the Ubuntu operating system, designed to be deployed on all types of embedded and IoT (Internet of Things) devices.
The current version will be available by default in Snappy Ubuntu Core 16.04 LTS, scheduled to launch on April 21, 2016.
More information about Snappy Ubuntu can be found on the official project page.
