Canonical has finally released the new Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) operating system, which has been in development for the past six months, since last October, when Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) debuted.

If you have been using Ubuntu 16.10 on your personal computer until today, the time has come for you to upgrade to Ubuntu 17.04, which is a powerful version both outside and inside. The new operating system arrives with the new 4.10 kernel, as well as with the updated graphical stack and based on X.Org Server 1.19.3 and Mesa 17.0.3.

Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) is now official, along with multiple distributions

Only these three technologies mentioned above are more than enough reasons to update Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) right now, especially for those who have AMD Radeon graphics cards and who want to enjoy gaming on Linux.

The default environment for Ubuntu 17.04 is still Unity 7, so for now there is still time to enjoy Unity, which by the way, will also be available in the next version Ubuntu 17.10, whose development will start next month. After that, starting with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, the GNOME desktop will be used by default.

Print without drivers, Swap files and much more

Among other interesting features with the final version of Ubuntu 17.04, we can mention the implementation of Swap files, which will now be used instead of a Swap partition for new installations of the operating system. So this change will not apply if you are only updating from a previous version of Ubuntu.

Also, the default DNS resolver was changed to systemd-resolved, while IPP Everywhere and Apple AirPrint printers are now factory supported without the need for additional drivers.

On the other hand, most of the GNOME Stack packages were updated to GNOME version 3.24, although Nautilus is still blocked in version 3.20.4.

So far, along with Ubuntu 17.04, other official operating system distributions have also appeared, including Ubuntu GNOME 17.40, Ubuntu MATE 17.04, Kubuntu 17.04, Xubuntu 17.04, Lubuntu 17.04, Ubuntu Kylin 17.04, Ubuntu Studio 17.04, as well as Ubuntu Budgie 17.04., which debuts as an official Ubuntu distribution developed around the Budgie desktop.

Finally, remember that Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) is a version with short-term support, so you will benefit from security updates for only 9 months, until mid-January 2018.
