Assembler Colorful has released a custom version of the Nvidia GTX 980 with a massive 3-slot expansion heatsink and robust 14-phase VRM. The new Colorful GTX 980iGame comes with a custom PCB that features a total of 14 power phases complete with server-grade tantalum capacitors, high-grade DPAK MOSFETs, and high-grade chokes. The card is powered by two 8-pin connectors.
Its cooling is carried out by a voluminous 3 expansion slot heatsink and three 100mm fans in charge of generating the necessary air flow so that the card does not become a toaster.
It offers dual BIOS, one of them reaches 1127/1216 MHz in the GM204 core and maintains the 4 GB GDDR5 VRAM at a frequency of 7.00 GHz (reference) while the second BIOS reaches 1178/1279 MHz in the core and 7.01 GHz in memory.
Given the characteristics of the card, it is expected that the user can apply a large overclock to exceed the frequencies at which the card comes without too many complications.
