The appearance of Windows in terms of themes of its windows has never been too extensive. The truth is that the window environment customization options are quite poor and with few changes. That is why the company has put its batteries a little and has provided users with the dark version of the traditional theme, also for the file explorer. It's not a big deal, but at least we'll have a few more options.

In addition to the new dark theme in file explorer, we will also have the possibility of matching our browsed Microsoft Edge with this same theme.

This option is already fully functional on our system, and it will allow us, in addition to putting the start menu and certain applications in dark mode, to be able to apply this effect to Windows Explorer completely.

Steps to activate dark theme in Windows 10

Well, the procedure to activate this theme is quite simple, although it is not exactly intuitive.

The first thing we will have to do is right-click on the desktop and choose the “ Personalize ” option.

Then we go to the " Colors " section. This is where we will have this option to activate the dark theme.

If we navigate to the bottom we will find a selection called " Choose the default application mode ". It is here where we will have to choose the option “ Dark

In this way our window environment will become completely dark. It will also be applicable for drop-down menus and window borders.

Put another color on the edge of the windows

We can still make another interesting modification to get a nice contrast with the dark theme and the edges of the windows. In this way, not everything will be totally dark.

  • Located in this same customization window, we must go to the color panel to choose one that we like. Next, we will go to the section below " Show emphasis color on the following surfaces ". Here we will have to activate the option " title and window borders ”.

With this option the edges of the windows will become the color that we have chosen above. And also the details of the activation button and selection elements will be in this color.

If we also activate the option of " Start, task bar and activity center ", we will also put this same color, both the start menu and the sidebar of notifications.

In this way we can make interesting combinations of light and dark themes with the emphasis on color in the windows.

Put dark theme in Microsoft Edge Browser

There is still an important element for our system to match, and this is the Microsoft Edge browser. If we use it frequently, we may want to match it with the rest of the system.

  • To do this, we are going to open our browser and go to the configuration button located in the upper right. Now we choose the configuration option from the options panel that will open. We click on the drop-down list located in " Choose a mode " and we choose “ Dark

Now our browser will also have the same theme as Windows 10.

This is the way to customize a little more the appearance of our system, if we want light or dark theme and give a more personal touch to the edges of the windows.

When activating and deactivating the dark theme in Windows 10, the file explorer folders that are open will be misconfigured and a black area will be seen. All you have to do is close and reopen them.
