Repair Windows 10 Start menu with regedit

Windows by default does not have any tool that allows us to solve possible problems with the start menu or with the file explorer. And in our opinion it is something that should be done without resorting to registration. To fix errors in Windows we must visit more than we would like the so delicate record.

To repair Windows 10 start menu, it is best to completely erase its configuration and return to the default configuration. To do this we will perform the following procedure:

  • The first thing will be to open the Windows Run tool by using the " Windows + R " key combination. Now we will place the following command in the text input box:

regedit

  • We press Enter to execute this. Immediately a window will open that will be the Windows registry editor. The user account control will ask us for permission to access, we must say yes.

Once inside, we will have an environment divided into two sections, on the right side the registry values will be shown and on the left the key tree. In this last section, we must go to the following route:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ CloudStore \ Store \ Cache \ DefaultAccount

Once inside this section, we will see that within DefaultAccount there are a large number of registry keys.

What we must do is right click on “ DefaultAccount ” and choose “ Delete ”. In this way we will erase all the configuration cache of the start menu and this will be back to the factory.

Restarting the file browser

Now what we will have to do is restart the computer to verify that the start menu will be impeccable again and without any modifications made.

We can also save ourselves from restarting the computer if we choose to restart only the file explorer. To do this we will perform these steps:

  • We are located in the taskbar and right-click on it We choose the option " Task manager ". This will open a window that shows the status of the system.

  • Click on " More details " and move on to the process named " Windows Explorer " Here we must right-click on it and choose " Restart task "

In this way, Windows Explorer will restart and we will be able to see the results reflected in the start menu. Note the results with respect to the first image shown above.

Repair Windows 10 Start Menu with SFC

The error may be more serious than meets the eye. That is why to make sure that not only the start menu, but the entire system is in optimal state, we are going to use a command that performs the functions of scanning and repairing files.

  • In this case, what we must do is open the start menu and write " cmd " or if we prefer, " Powershell ". In any case, a search result of what we are looking for will appear. We will have to click on " Run as administrator ". If the right side information does not appear, we must open it by right clicking on the search result.

Now we must write the following command, and press Enter to execute it.

sfc / sannow

In this way a process will begin and we will have to wait until it ends. During its execution, the following error may appear: " Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix soma of them ". In which case we will have to place the following command:

dism / online / cleanup-image / restorehealth

This command will perform tasks similar to sfc but in a more exhaustive way and by a different method. Also, it may take longer.

Using these methods it will be possible to repair the Windows 10 start menu to leave it as it came from the factory or as it would be if we installed Windows 10 again.
