We return to the fray with a new comparison between smartphones, this time with two models that will give a lot to talk about and that share many of their technical specifications. It is neither more nor less than the Xiaomi Mi4C and the Google Nexus 5X.

Technical characteristics:

Design

Both smartphones are presented with a unibody design that has a higher quality finish but has the drawback of not allowing the battery to be removed for replacement. The Xiaomi Mi4C presents slightly better use of the front surface since the screen takes advantage of a greater percentage of the area (71.7% vs. 69.8%), something that helps to create a slightly more compact device with smaller frames. Regarding the dimensions, the Xiaomi Mi4C is more compact with measures of 138.1 x 69.6 x 7.8 mm and a weight of 132 grams, while the Nexus 5X is presented with dimensions of 147 x 72.6 x 7.9 mm and a weight 136 grams, something logical considering that the Google terminal has a slightly larger screen size coupled with the worst use of the front surface.

The Xiaomi takes better advantage of the front space which allows it to make the Mi4C a very compact 5-inch smartphone

screen

As for the screen, the Nexus 5X seems to be slightly ahead with a 5.2-inch diagonal and a generous resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (424 ppi). Against this we come across the 5-inch diagonal of the Xiaomi Mi4C at the same resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, which allows it to reach a slightly higher pixel density with (441 ppi). Both have IPS technology, so image quality and good viewing angles should be more than assured.

The most notable difference on the screen is that the Nexus 5X has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protective glass while the Xiaomi Mi4C seems not to have it since it is not among its specifications.

Two very similar screens on paper, here the Nexus 5X has the addition of Corning Gorilla Glass 3

Optics

We arrived at the optician and observed excellent units in both cases. The Google terminal has a 12 megapixel main camera with a pixel size of 1.55 microns, laser autofocus, dual-tone dual LED flash, face detection and HDR. As for video recording, it is capable of doing it at 4K and 30 fps. If we look at the front camera we find a 5 megapixel unit that can record video at 720p and 30 fps.

For its part, the Xiaomi Mi4C mounts a 13-megapixel main camera with autofocus, face detection and dual-tone dual LED flash capable of recording video at 1080p and 30 fps. This time we do not know the pixel size nor do we know if the autofocus of the camera is by laser. As for the front camera, it seems to be ahead of the Nexus 6P with a 5 megapixel unit that can record at 1080p and 30 fps.

Processor

We got to the point with fewer differences between both smartphones, since both mount exactly the same processor, so it will be the optimization of the software that is responsible for marking the differences between the two.

In both cases we find a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor manufactured in 20nm and formed by four Cortex A 53 cores at 1.44 GHz and two other Cortex A57 at 1.82 GHz. The set is completed with a very powerful Adreno 418 GPU that will allow us to enjoy all the games available without any problem . In short, a processor with a very remarkable power that will not wrinkle before any application.

Both Google and Xiaomi have opted for the Snapdragon 808, which guarantees excellent performance and leaves any differences in performance to the software.

RAM and storage

The Xiaomi Mi4C is presented in two different versions, one of them has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage while the other version has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. For its part, the Nexus 5X is presented with 2 GB of RAM and storage options of 16/32 GB. We emphasize that in both cases you will NOT be able to expand its storage as it lacks a microSD slot.

OS

As we have seen before, the processor is identical between both smartphones, so it will be the operating system and its degree of optimization that are responsible for making the differences between the performance and operation of both. In the case of the Nexus 5X we find the recently announced Android 6.0 Marshmallow that promises great improvements in performance and power management, perhaps the two weakest points of the Google operating system. To this we add that it is a completely clean version of Android without poorly optimized customization layers that may impair performance.

For its part, the Xiaomi Mi4C has a strongly personalized Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system such as MIUI 7, a customization layer well known for having excellent optimization and enviable operation, as well as including various extras such as root and applications for security and smartphone maintenance.

The Xiaomi Mi4C arrives with its very popular MIUI 7 operating system and characterized by offering excellent performance

Battery

The Xiaomi Mi4C offers a battery with a capacity of 3, 080 mAh. On the other hand, the Nexus 5X offers a considerably larger battery of 2, 700 mAh, in both cases they are NOT removable. On paper the Xiaomi Mi4C seems superior in this regard although it remains to be seen how both operating systems will manage energy.

Connectivity

Both terminals have connections such as WiFi 802.11a / b / g / n / ac, 3G, 4G LTE, A-GPS, GLONASS, Bluetooth and USB 3.1 Type-C. The differences are found in that the Nexus 5X includes NFC and Bluetooth 4.2 while the Xiaomi Mi4C has Bluetooth 4.1. Neither of them has an FM Radio.

Availability and price:

The Nexus 5X has a starting price of 479 euros in its 16 GB version while the 32 GB model amounts to 529 euros. For its part, the Xiaomi Mi4C has a considerably lower starting price in the usual Chinese stores, 214 euros in its 16 GB / 2 GB version and 241 euros in its 32 GB / 3 GB version. A difference in the starting models of 265 euros that makes you can buy two Xiaomi Mi4C with what a Nexus 5X costs, almost nothing.
