Corsair K57 RGB Wireless is one of those different gaming keyboards, especially coming from this manufacturer. For all those who do not want to make the move to a mechanical gaming keyboard, we have this model, a direct successor to the K55 with good quality membrane keys, wireless with less than 1 ms response, and powerful RGB lighting.
In this review we have thoroughly tested this keyboard for a few days, and not only playing but also typing, so we will tell you about our first-hand impressions. Let's start!
But first we must thank Corsair for their trust in us by giving us this keyboard to do our analysis.
Corsair K57 RGB Wireless technical characteristics
Unboxing
The Corsair K57 RGB Wireless will not be the top of the range version of the brand, but its presentation is at the best level, and exactly as careful as the rest of the products. This time we have a thick rigid cardboard box with extremely tight measurements to the keyboard and with the brand's own colors, yellow and black.
On the outside we have a photo of the keyboard illuminated by the front, and some concise information and in several languages by the back, here nothing to highlight. So we open the box, and we have the keyboard in a plastic bag and in turn perfectly fitted in a cardboard mold. This in turn serves to separate the keyboard from the rest of the elements.
In the bundle we find several accessories:
- Corsair K57 RGB Wireless keyboard Detachable armrest Cable for charging and connection Instructions
Brand stamp exterior design
And so it is, this Corsair K57 RGB Wireless clearly shows that it is a Corsair keyboard, wide, very wide and with its dedicated macro keys on the left. The keyboard is entirely made of plastic, of course the keys, but also all its structure and support. We have dimensions of 480 mm long, 230 mm deep with wrist rest included and about 40-45 mm high with the legs extended. All this makes the weight rise to 950 g, very close to the kilogram, so let's not underestimate the quality.
As we see, it is a keyboard in complete configuration with 111 keys in total. The peculiarity is perhaps the fact of using a membrane, since next to this, we only have two keyboards of this type in this manufacturer, the rest being mechanical switches. Corsair wants we have everyone happy offering a wide range of gaming options, and this will be ideal for those who do not want to spend more than 100 euros and have a high-quality keyboard.
Focusing already on the design of the Corsair K57 RGB Wireless, the keys have a standard size, being 10 mm raised above the plane except for the F and macro keys, which are a little lower so they are not in the way. The sections are all very well defined, and you could not miss a section specially dedicated to multimedia control and lighting.
Corsair has had the detail of including a palm rest on this keyboard like the rest of the gaming model, to achieve an improved comfort after several hours of use. I personally use this type of solution and I really appreciate it for playing and writing. This armrest is perfectly removable and has two claws that fix it on the side of the keyboard. It has a depth of 65 mm and is made of hard plastic, curiously, its rough surface gives us the feeling that it is soft and silky.
What you see above is part of the front area of the Corsair K57 RGB Wireless, where we have the connections and the odd detail. For example, an area specially dedicated to store the USB Type-A wireless receiver that we will use at the 2.4 GHz frequency. In addition, this receiver has SLIPSTREAM technology, making it compatible with other brand peripherals.
In the central area we have a switch that we will use to toggle the wireless keyboard mode (on position), and the wired connection mode (off position) to save battery power. And right next to it, we have the traditional Micro USB port to make this connection and charge.
Finally, the rear area is quite simple, we only have four thin rubber feet and another two extendable in a single position that will raise the keyboard. In this position we do not see any type of removable receptacle to access the battery or anything like that.
RGB lighting
We can not forget the lighting section, an important element in a gaming keyboard such as the Corsair K57 RGB Wireless. In this case we have RGB LED backlighting with Corsair CAPELLIX technology in absolutely all the keys of the same.
This technology is compatible with iCUE as we will see later, and when with 18 different lighting modes or animations. But we must bear in mind that we will not be able to add several lighting layers or customize the keys one by one, so we are somewhat limited in that regard.
Something that we did like is a great lighting power and the on-board buttons that we have to select the animation and the brightness power.
Membrane keys and experience
We continue with this Corsair K57 RGB Wireless of which we will now go deeper into its technical aspects and user experience.
As you may already know, we have a membrane keyboard, that means that the switches are flexible rubber elements that will make contact with an electrical element to activate the pulsation. And we must say that it is a membrane of high quality and above all different, little to do with the typical Chinese or cheap keyboards that also have this type of switch.
This we will quickly notice with different factors. The key installation is quite similar to that of mechanical keyboards, with a rail where each key enters and has a preset path. We can say that they are floating keys and with a fairly large stroke, no less than 4 mm in the complete transition. In this case it does not happen as in the mechanical switches, which are activated before completing the tour, here, we must make it complete.
The advantage that we have with this system is the great smoothness of the keys when playing and when typing, especially with a fluid stroke and with just enough force to avoid accidental keystrokes much better than a mechanical one. In addition, it is extremely quiet and the keys have little clearance, although not at the level of mechanical keyboards with cherry Black for example, that is logical. In any case they are very different sensations, but both positive.
It is nostalgic to go back to spend a few days with a membrane keyboard, and the truth is that I have adapted quite quickly to these keys. The size of the same and the characters are perfect, although perhaps we see the path for writing too long, of course, this is a matter of taste. In games, I have felt better, with sensations similar to those of Cherry Brown in the aforementioned aspects.
Features and connectivity
This Corsair K57 RGB Wireless has a selective 8-key Anti-Ghosting (8KPRO). In this sense we would have liked at least one of 10 keys to cover all the fingers that would be ideal for gaming.
Of course, all the F keys are capable of being customized based on the iCUE software, although by default we have a row of 6 "G" keys in the left area to create our macros for games. We also have a panel of multimedia keys in the upper right corner, as well as indicators of the type of connections we have made. These "G" keys, together with the characters, will also be subject to modification if we wish.
Regarding connectivity, we have three different possibilities:
- Traditional wired mode: through USB we can connect the Corsair K57 RGB Wireless to our PC and thus not waste battery. For this, we must have the front switch "OFF". Wireless 2.4 GHz: it is the connection available in all wireless peripherals, although this time we have a response time of 0.5 ms, since the keyboard polling rate is 1000 Hz. For this, we have a SLIPSTREAM USB receiver, and it is the most recommended connection. Via Bluetooth 4.2: if we prefer, we can use the Bluetooth connection that also includes the keyboard. In fact, we have two bands to use (F6 and F7 keys), thus being able to have a keyboard connected on all PCs and to be able to alternate their operation on both.
The approximate autonomy with the RGB lighting in operation will be 35 hours with a full charge. If we choose to deactivate the lighting, then we can extend it until 175 hours. The coverage is very good, with distances of 10 m or more if we have nothing in between.
ICUE software
We cannot forget the iCUE software to manage this Corsair K57 RGB Wireless. The software is composed as always of three sections. The actions one, to personalize the functions of the keys, the lighting effects one to select among several available effects, and the performance one to activate or deactivate the Windows accesses.
In general they are relatively basic options for a gaming keyboard of this cost in terms of lighting, although it is an extra detail so to speak. Otherwise we have good macro management at the level of the rest of the brand's products and also the possibility of updating the firmware.
Final words and conclusion about Corsair K57 RGB Wireless
Well, we come to the end of this analysis of the Corsair K57 RGB Wireless, a keyboard that is undoubtedly at the level of the best membrane we have ever tried, although it is true that its price could not be for less.
The first thing will be to highlight the performance of its keys, and its membrane system which offers us an exceptional touch. Some floating keys with quite a long stroke and without friction that is very comfortable especially for playing. It has an 8-key Anti-Ghosting, which is sufficient, although not perfect, since 10 keys would have been optimal.
On the other hand, the writing experience has also been very good, especially for those who are accustomed to keys with a wide path will be in their ideal environment. The touch does not become that of a mechanic with Brown switches, but they are somewhat similar, both by force of action, and by the sensations.
We recommend our guide to the best keyboards on the market
Regarding the design, it is a full-size configuration very similar to other upper keyboards such as the K70, K63 or its lower version, the K55. With wrist rest, independent lighting and multimedia keys and three connection methods, 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth or wired.
In addition, it is manageable with iCUE, both to create macros and to customize the function of its keys one by one. Maybe we would have liked a slightly more complex addressable RGB system, but it's just an extra. The autonomy will also be very good, with a rechargeable battery with up to 35 or 175 hours with or without lighting.
We finish with the availability and price. The Corsair K57 RGB Wireless is now available in the main online stores in Europe for a price of 99.99 euros, inclusive in Spanish configuration. To be a membrane keyboard it is not cheap, although it is of considerable quality and great finishes. It could be one of the best membranes we can have, so for us, it is a recommended product.
