Unboxing and design

As in all Corsair products, we find a classic presentation with a box in which the brand's corporate colors predominate: yellow and black. On the front we see an image of the keyboard as well as the main features it presents such as RGB lighting, liquid resistance and Cherry MX Red switches. In the rear area we have all the most important specifications of the keyboard in several languages including Spanish.

Corsair K68 RGB is a complete keyboard that incorporates the number block on the right, making it a highly recommended unit for users who need to make intensive use of this part, for example accountants. It reaches dimensions of 455 x 170 x 39 mm and a weight of 1120 grams.

Like all the keyboards of the brand, it has a floating key structure, this means that they are placed directly on the steel chassis without any unevenness, this is a success since it helps us to have a quick and easy maintenance.

Corsair attaches us a very good quality wrist rest and made of plastic so it is very light, this helps us achieve greater ergonomics when typing for several hours. It seems to us a success that is removable since users are allowed to choose whether they want to use it or not.

Corsair K68 RGB mounts the acclaimed Cherry MX RED switches, these mechanisms stand out for being very smooth and completely linear with an activation travel of only 2 mm, an activation force of 45 cN and a maximum travel of 4 mm. This type of switch has a longevity of up to 50 million keystrokes, so we have a keyboard for many years if we take care of it. These switches are focused on games, of course they can also be used for other tasks such as writing, although it is not the use for which they are primarily intended.

The Corsair K68 RGB has a response time of 1 ms in each of its keys and the 10 N-Key Rollover (NKRO) and Anti-Ghosting technologies, this makes it possible to simultaneously press a large number of keys without the keyboard to crash.

Corsair K68 RGB is resistant to both water and dust thanks to the IP32 certification, thanks to this we will be safe from accidental water fall. To achieve this , each switch has been surrounded with a rubber membrane that prevents the entry of dust and water, all without preventing the passage of light as we will see later. Thanks to this membrane, the keyboard PCB is completely protected from splashing water.

As always, Corsair has included dedicated keys for multimedia and the option to turn on / off, increase and decrease the volume, all of them are in the upper right and are very accessible while we are using the keyboard. It also has two buttons to adjust the lighting intensity and to lock the Windows key.

In the back we find the characteristics two folding plastic legs that allow us to slightly lift the keyboard for greater comfort of use if the user believes it appropriate.

The Corsair K68 RGB keyboard connects to the PC through a 1.8 meter stranded cable that ends in a USB connector, the latter is not gold plated, a detail to improve in future reviews.

Corsair CUE software

Like most brand peripherals, the Corsair K68 RGB is compatible with Corsair Utility Engine (CUE) software that we can download from the manufacturer's official website. The keyboard can be used without this software but we recommend using it in order to get its full potential.

The application is divided into three very important sections: Actions, lighting effects and performance. From them we can perfectly manage all the keyboard parameters in a very comfortable and simple way. Thanks to CUE we can manage a total of three profiles so that we will have the keyboard always ready to use in different games and applications. We can also customize up to 6 macro keys to kill our enemies in a more comfortable way.

We come to the lighting section, from here we can manage the color and the light effects such as wave, curly, solid, rain... being an RGB system the possibilities are very wide. Finally, it allows us to check and update the firmware, change the language of the software, modify the multimedia keys and be able to contact Corsair's European technical support.

Final words and conclusion about Corsair K68 RGB

Corsair K68 RGB is an excellent mechanical keyboard for the most demanding users, Cherry MX Red switches guarantee the best gaming experience and good behavior for other tasks such as writing. Cherry is a leader in keyboard mechanisms so this unit has the best technology and will last us for many years, the manufacturer guarantees 50 million keystrokes for each key.

The overall design of the keyboard is excellent, the only downside we can put is that the body is all plastic, although this helps it to be lighter than metal keyboards, in any case, inside if there is a solid steel plate that gives a lot of rigidity. Corsair keycaps have a very large font, this helps the lighting to be more intense.

Finally, the detachable wrist rest offers a very good ergonomics and its CUE software will help us to take full advantage of it, since it offers everything that a mechanical keyboard can be asked for today.
