How we like to test keyboards! And more when they are exclusive! We have received the Corsair K95 RGB Platinum one of the best keyboards on the market. Revamped in design with Cherry MX RGB Speed switches and impeccable build quality. You want to know more? Don't miss our review!

We thank Corsair Spain for trusting the product for its analysis.

Corsair K95 RGB Technical Features

Unboxing and design

The packaging of the Corsair K95 RGB Platinum is very familiar to other keyboards of the brand that we have already analyzed. On the cover we see a picture of the product, the large print model and the certificate for MX Cherry switches.

While in the rear area we have all the technical characteristics of the product.

Once we open the box we find:

  • Corsair K95 RGB Platinum keyboard. Instruction manual in Spanish. Wrist rest with magnetic rubber surface. Quick start guide. Key extraction kit and key replacement for FPS and MOBAs.

It has measurements of 465 x 171 x 36mm and a weight of 1, 324 kg. The keyboard is constructed of a brushed aluminum frame and features a design that excels that of its older siblings. This new body offers greater lightness and a softer ergonomics.

The Corsair K95 RGB Platinum is not compatible with the Corsair Lapdog, keep this in mind if you want to use it with the Corsair combo.

The keyboard is distributed in more than one hundred keys consisting of the alpha-numeric zone, full numeric keyboard, function keys in the upper zone and a special zone for macros.

The double-sided wrist rest uses a magnetized system for a better cleaning and adaptation to our wrists. It is quite comfortable.

Those of us with keyboards with macros on the left sometimes get confused and try to type with them. Corsair has had the idea to build these keys with a rubber coating, thanks to this system we can quickly identify what the macro keys are.

As an interesting note, they have a height slightly higher than the rest of the keys (just a few mm) to help us identify, exactly they measure 42 mm.

In the upper left corner we have the brightness keys, which allows adjusting in multiples of 25, up to a maximum of 100% brightness, a second button allows us to block the Windows key and another switch between profiles that we establish from the software.

While the upper right corner we can silence the sound of our PC and adjust with a roller the volume of the system.

We can see that on the sides there is no frame that protects the switches, facilitating the cleaning of the keys and the base of the keyboard itself. Why is this design so important? Basically it offers us a great advantage in cleaning and hygiene on the keyboard.

There are many types of MX Cherry switches on the market: MX Red, MX Brown, MX Blue, MX Silent and we have already analyzed them MX-Speed RGB . We give you a little reminder of its characteristics: The MX Speed are designed to be the fastest on the market, and thus satisfy the most sybaritic users. Unlike the Cherry MX-RED, its actuation power is only 1.2 mm and its strength is 45 G, that is, an ultra-fast performance of up to 40% faster than the MX Red.

But one of the great novelties is that the encapsulation is transparent, facilitating lighting, and thus offering us the wonders of RGB keys. For those who are not lovers of colored lights, remember that from Software you can deactivate it, since for many it is a point of distraction.

As a good high-end keyboard, it incorporates N-Key Rollover (NKRO) and Anti-Ghosting technology that improve both the gaming and daily experience. While the number of reports is up to 1 ms. Great combination for the most enthusiastic!

The cable is long enough to move the keyboard freely and hide the wiring well. We must install two USB connections on our PC: one to power it and another for the HUB. We did not like that it does not incorporate a USB 3.0 HUB, but continues with USB 2.0… already in 2017 it seems something quite low.

As we have already seen in the K70 RGB versions, it includes the possibility of changing the conventional keys for two sets. The first is for FPS games , that is, the WASD keys. And the second game is for MOBA games with the QWERDF shortcut keys. Obviously it incorporates a small kit of extraction of keys that facilitates the task and without breaking any switch.

In the previous area we have 4 rubber feet that offer two positions, and four other rubber bands that prevent the keyboard from slipping, along with a product identification label. We really liked the detail, of incorporating some cross-shaped rails, which allows you to save the wiring of any device, for example the Corsair VOID that we analyzed a while ago. Undoubtedly, a successful design that we have always liked very much on the part of Corsair.

RGB lighting becomes more important in the gaming world. It has Corsair LightEdge technology that allows you to customize 16.8 million colors in both the switches and the front area of the keyboard, making it the leading exponent on the market.

Corsair Utility Engine Software

We need to download the configuration software to get the most out of it. The Corsair Utility Engine allows us to customize our keyboard to the maximum: firmware update, lighting and macros.

The application has been renewed and is divided into three key sections: Actions, lighting effects and performance. We make a brief summary:

  • It allows us to manage a total of three profiles or until they occupy the 8MB dedicated storage. It's a blast to switch live as you play, allowing us to customize up to 6 physical macro keys. In this way we can have quite an advantage playing over our rival. Games like Counter Strike, LoL or Dota can play havoc. Lighting: In this section it already allows us a more complex and more advanced lighting. Create combinations with wave, curly, solid, rain… that is, the best of the best on the market. In addition there is a Hall of Fame (HOF) that you can upload your profiles or download the most popular. The last option is "options" that allows us to check and update the firmware, change the language of the software, modify the multimedia keys and be able to contact Corsair European technical support.

Final words and conclusion about Corsair K95 RGB Platinum

As we have seen in this review, the Corsair K95 RGB Platinum is one of the best keyboards on the market and is positioned on the pole of the most complete. The addition of the ultra-fast Cherry MX-Speed switches, RGB lighting on both switches, front bezel, and top-zone logo comes as a finger ring for light and gaming lovers.

We really liked that in the previous area we have the possibility of hiding the excess USB cables on the cross-shaped rails. Also, that the six macro buttons are quickly differentiated by touch.

Currently available in Spain for a price of 199 euros, both with the MX-Speed and MX-Brown mechanisms. If you don't like the completely black edition (which is the one we have analyzed and consider beautiful), offer us a Gunmetal, which also looks great. Although for now we have not seen it listed in online stores.
