New data leaked by tech portal Chiphell confirms that a Radeon RX 480 dual-card CrossFire configuration is a nearly as powerful and cheaper solution than Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1080 with Pascal architecture. CrossFire Radeon RX 480 almost beat confirmed GTX 1080.

CrossFire Radeon RX 480 tested in 3D Mark, temperature under control

Chiphell has taken two Radeon RX 480s at a core frequency of 1, 288 MHz and put them together in a CrossFire configuration to pass them through the 3D Mark synthetic benchmark. Despite being two cards with the reference heatsink, the temperatures have remained reasonably contained since they have reached 82ºC and 87ºC.

It is important to note that the fan speed has been kept below 50% so that users will be able to achieve much more adjusted temperatures just by speeding up the fans a little.

The Radeon RX 480 on CrossFire has achieved a 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra score of 4, 880 points (GTX 1080 5, 600 points), 9, 191 points on 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme (GTX 1080 10, 500 points) and 8, 416 points on 3DMark 11.

Chiphell also shows us the new overclocking tool that AMD has created. This new software is capable of controlling the speed of the GPU as well as its voltage in each of its states, it is also possible to control the maximum allowed temperature as well as the speed of the fans.

The software seems quite complete and secure that it helps users achieve better overclock marks on their new AMD Polaris graphics cards.

Recall that the Radeon RX 480 will arrive in its 8 GB version for a price of less than 300 euros, so a CrossFire system would cost less than 600 euros. The GeForce GTX 1080 has a price of about 780 euros approximately so we would be talking about a saving of almost 200 euros to achieve practically the same performance.

For now we have only seen synthetic tests so it is better to wait to see the first reviews to see if a Radeon RX 480 CrossFire is really a better option than a single GeForce GTX 1080, let's not forget that multiGPU systems tend not to be precisely trouble free.
