We recently learned about the Cyberpunk 2077 delay of a few months, more specifically for the month of September. Not much details have been given about it because of this decision, but new leaked information reveals that the delay is due to optimization issues with the current generation of consoles.

Cyberpunk 2077 delayed due to optimization problems on consoles, especially on Xbox One

Cyberpunk 2077 promises gamers some of the best graphics of this generation of consoles, as The Witcher 3 once was. This push to improve graphics has always raised the question, are Xbox One and PlayStation 4 enough powerful to handle this? Well, according to a Polish expert Borys Niespielak, they are not, which is why Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed until September 2020.

In a recent podcast , which is included below, Niespielak stated that CD Projekt Red has struggled to optimize the game for Xbox One, and that the game's performance is "extremely unsatisfactory." This coincides with CD Projekt Red's reasoning about its delay, in which the developer stated that the game was "complete and playable", but that the game needed more polishing.

Although Niespielak's information should be taken with a grain of salt, it's not unlikely that Microsoft's original Xbox One is facing performance issues in modern titles. According to a translation of the podcast below by Discord user Klawiaturodzierzca (via altchar), achieving stable game performance on Microsoft's original Xbox One consoles (not Xbox One S) has been challenging.

This is the challenge that many studios like CDProjekt will face, launching their games in close proximity with the next-gen, since they will have to work for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation 4 normal, Xbox Series X, Xbox One X and Xbox One normal, in addition to the PC version.

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled for release on September 17, 2020.
