Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB is one of the latest creations from the Dutch-based Chinese company, and is bidding for mid- range chassis. This chassis features 3 built-in RGB fans and front and side tempered glass windows. For users looking for a minimalist and elegant design, it will certainly be an option to consider.
But first of all we suggest you read this complete review to see first hand the characteristics of this chassis. Let's start!
As the canons mark, we must thank Deepcool for giving us their product for analysis.
Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
The package that stores this Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB consists of a neutral cardboard box somewhat punished and with the silkscreen in black ink. On the side, on both sides, we find a sketch of the chassis that it stores inside, and on the front we will have the main characteristics of the product.
In addition, on the side we find information about the chassis model, as well as the information that we will have 3 Deepcool CF120 RGB fans.
Once we open the package, we will find the chassis fixed by two elements of expanded polystyrene cork, as they all come, and in turn this one, wrapped in a transparent plastic bag.
Inside, we found nothing else apart from the chassis. To access the screws, we will need to remove the tempered glass window to take the bag that has the content we are looking for.
The Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB box after a first visual seems to us a chassis with a fairly minimalist design, with well-defined edges through right angles throughout. The combination of the glass side window, with part of the front also with tempered glass, seems to us something original and at the same time elegant. But we miss something more quality in the finishes, especially in the front area.
The chassis is constructed of 0.6mm thick matte black SPCC steel, ABS plastic for the windowless front, and tempered glass for the front and side configuration.
The dimensions of the chassis are 440 mm long by 210 mm wide throughout, 480 mm high and an unladen weight of 6.97 Kg. In this way we have a Medium tower or Middle tower configuration of little width and yes a good height. This makes the overall shot look like a tall and fairly thin tower.
Starting from the Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB side, we have installed a 4mm thick tempered glass window that occupies absolutely the entire area that reveals the entire interior, including the terminations of the chassis and the power supply compartment.
The method of fixing the glass to the chassis is by means of manual thread screws with rubber protection to avoid shock and vibrations.
In the front area, the ventilation grille can be seen, which occupies practically the entire area. Because it is quite large, we can have a good flow of air into the interior.
We are located in the front area to appreciate a large 4mm thick tempered glass window that occupies approximately 75% of this area. This has a permanent attachment to the ABS type plastic that occupies the rest of the front. To divide both zones, we have a thin band of RGB LED lighting. And finally we have the brand logo located in the lower central area.
On this front, we have three pre-installed Deepcool CF120 RGB 120mm fluted, white fans that will allow air to be introduced into the chassis. These have RGB lighting synchronized to the front area through the corresponding microcontroller.
Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB also has support for the installation of Deecool / Gamestrom lighting bands and the possibility of synchronization with technologies such as Asus Aura, ASRock Polychrome, Gigabyte GRB fusion and MSI Mystic Light
If we remove the front area, we can access the installation area for fans, which are located in the compartment that is between the removable front and the chassis. We can also install them in the interior area, although this is more oriented to the liquid cooling installation.
We have a medium grain dust filter on the front side grilles, but this will be insufficient to stop the smallest particles.
In the right side area, the only thing we have is the sheet that covers the wiring management area that is fixed by means of manual thread screws. You can also see the air inlet grille to the interior, identical to the one in the other area.
Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB has an I / O panel located in the upper area, a strategy widely used by most manufacturers. In it we will have the following elements:
- 1 USB 3.02 USB 2.0 3.5mm audio input and output jack and micro power button and RESET RGB control button
In addition, in this upper area we have a huge ventilation opening protected by a magnetic dust filter.
In the rear area we find 7 expansion slots for ATX and E-ATX boards in addition to the PSU installation area and the grille for air extraction from the interior area. We do not have any pre-installed fans in this area.
The grids are welded, so the extraction will be permanent.
The lower area has an opening to ensure the air flow in the power supply of rather small measures. A medium grain dust filter is pre-installed.
The legs are of small dimensions built in plastic and rubber protection to avoid vibrations. We can also see that we have an opening in the front area for easy removal of the panel.
Interior and assembly
We go to see the interior of this Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB removing the corresponding plates and crystals. We find a large work area and full of gaps to pass cables from one side to another. If we look at the right area, we can see the installation holes for 2 2.5-inch storage units or SSD.
The rest of the area is intended for the installation of the motherboard, where this chassis supports all formats on the market such as E-ATX, ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX. But we must keep in mind an important detail, if we install an E-ATX the lateral holes will be covered and the installation of the SSDs in this area will not be possible either.
We will have a capacity for the installation of CPU coolers of up to 168 mm and graphics cards of up to 370 mm, which is why practically all the equipment available in the market will enter, except large range top coolers.
One of the things we consider negative is that the sheet metal used to fix the motherboard is really thin and flimsy. We couldn't even connect the power to the board without having to hold it from behind to avoid damaging it.
Go to the tight measures that this chassis apparently has, we will have enough possibilities to install components, both ventilation and cooling. Let's see them:
Fan configuration:
- Front: 120mm x3 (pre-installed) or 140mm x3 Rear: 120mm x1 Top: 120 / 140mm x2
This makes a total of 6 fans in 120mm configuration and 5 in 140mm configuration. In the front area as we said, we can place them both inside and outside the hardware area. We are grateful, without a doubt, that it comes with 3 factory RGB fans, although we have nothing to force the extraction of air, so we will have to acquire an extra fan for this area.
Cooling configuration:
- Front: 120/140/240/280 / 360mm Rear: 120mm Top: 120/140/240 / 280mm
In the refrigeration section it is undoubtedly at the height of the best chassis in the range, having interesting possibilities both in the upper area and the front area, or both together.
We quickly rotate this Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB to see the rear area and how it will behave in cable management. In this area we will also have the possibility of installing two SSD disks, although we would have problems if it were an E-ATX board. If this is your case, we do not recommend this tower to mount one.
The capacity of the storage units is comprised of two 3.5-inch units that can be installed in the compartment in the area of the power supply. And another two of 2.5 inches, either in this same area or in the main compartment. The case of mechanical hard drives does not have anti vibration rubbers so we will notice the sound of them.
We can install PSUs of up to 170 mm in the compartment intended for it. And the management space we have is 23 mm, quite fair, we must say.
To finish we leave some images of the assembly and the chassis in full operation. We have achieved a clean installation, although with the problems reported in the installation of the motherboard.
Final words and conclusion about Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB
Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB presents its credentials to compete with mid-range chassis. As main assets we highlight a fairly minimalist design that will show all the ventilation and lighting thanks to its tempered glass windows both front and rear, in operation, it is a really attractive chassis.
In addition, according to the manufacturer, we can install and synchronize RGB lighting systems from other manufacturers of boards and gaming items such as ASUS, MSI or ASRock or Gigabyte.
Another of its great advantages is the great compatibility with cooling and ventilation systems. For liquid lovers, they can practically install any refrigerator on the market in a medium / high range.
We also recommend you take a look at our guide to the best boxes of the moment.
As for aspects in which it could be improved a little, it is in the materials section, we have found a very thin base plate fixing sheet and a fairly thin plastic front. Cable management is also upgradeable, but it is what usually happens with chassis of less than 230 mm.
Deepcool Matrexx 55 ADD-RGB we can find it in the market for a price of 50 euros.
