The prestigious professional overclocker Der8auer has obtained some samples of the new 12 to 18-core Intel Skylake-X processors that will hit the market in the coming months to stand up to the recently launched AMD Ryzen Threadripper.

Intel Skylake-X no soldiers come

These new Intel Skylake-X processors will run on the same Kaby Lake-X LGA 2066 platform and the 10-core Core i9-7900X that has already been released within the Skylake-X family. The mission of these new processors is to recover the throne of absolute performance, since AMD has taken it from Intel after many years with the arrival of the 16-core Ryzen Threadripper.

Intel i9-7900X Review in Spanish (Full Review)

Der8auer has delided these new processors with its own Delid-Die-Mate-X tool and has observed that the die is larger than that of the Core i9-7900X, something that was already to be expected seeing the number of cores of these new processors. The overclocker has also been able to confirm that these powerful new Intel Skylake-X processors do not come with the die welded to the IHS, which would translate into better heat transfer to the heatsink and thus a lower operating temperature.

Der8auer recommends not delidding these new processors because there is a risk of irremediably damaging them, the risk always exists in this process but we imagine that by having a larger die it is much closer to the edge of the processor and therefore is much more easy to make a mistake and end up with a nice paperweight of over 10000 euros.

The arrival of the Core i9-7900X was accompanied by comments about the temperature problems of the processor and the power system (VRM) of the motherboards, we will see if history repeats itself with some even more demanding processors of energy and that they do not come welded either.
