Windows defender is the antivirus that comes with the default Windows operating system. It is a software that in our opinion works very well consuming few resources. Although it is also true that sometimes it is necessary to temporarily disable it to perform certain actions. Or simply because we own a better antivirus license and want to take advantage of it. So today we are going to see how to disable Windows defender in Windows 10.

Disabling Windows Defender can make life easier for us in aspects such as downloading certain programs from the internet, files or installing them. Let's see how we can do this.

Temporarily disable Windows Defender

Using this method, we will deactivate the antivirus protection temporarily. To reactivate it you will have to follow the same steps that we will detail below.

  • The first thing we will have to do is go to the Windows configuration menu. To do it directly we will only have to press the key combination " Windows + I ". Next we will go to the " Update and security " option

  • In this new window we will have to go to " Windows Security " Once inside, click on " Open Windows Defender security center "

After opening the security center, we must click on the option " Antivirus and threat protection"

Then we access the option " Antivirus configuration and protection against threats"

Now we just have to give it to the button " Protection in real time " and disable it

As you can see it has been quite simple and our team has not exploited anything like that, as it usually happens with other antivirus.

Disable Windows defend completely

If what we want is something more forceful, we can also disable Windows Defender forever from our team. To do this we will need to enter the Windows registry. This is not a risk-free operation, to know some things that you should take into account before modifying the Windows registry and how to access it, visit our article:

Once we know the consequences of our actions, the first thing we must do is perform the steps in the previous section to disable everything that has to do with Windows Defender.

  • Now we press the key combination " Windows + R " to open the execute tool. We write inside the four text " regedit " and press Enter. Once inside the Windows registry editor we will have to go to the following path:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows Defender

  • Within this value key, we will have to create a new value in it. To do this we right click on the window and choose " New ", inside this we choose DWORD (32bits) We will have to give the name " DisableAntiSpyware " to the new file created

  • Once this is done, we double click and place the value " 1 " inside

We can now close the registry editor. Now we have to open the group policy editor.

  • Again we open the " run " tool and in this case write " msc " Once inside we must find the following path:

Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Windows Defender Antivirus

  • Here we will locate the policy " Deactivate Windows Defender Antivirus " We double click on it and in the new window we choose " Enabled "

Now we will permanently have our antivirus disabled. We can verify this by going to its configuration panel. If we open it, the possibility of activating it again will not appear.

We still have a pending question, and that is to eliminate the notifications related to the antivirus.

  • Deactivate Windows Defender notifications To deactivate these notifications we will have to do the following: We go to the Start menu and write " control panel " and access it. We will then access the " System and security " section or the " security and maintenance " section if we have configured the view by icons

In the new window we will have the information corresponding to the notifications that the team makes about security.

  • To deactivate notifications, click on the option " Deactivate messages on antivirus protection "
