At CES 2017, ASRock showed one of the most interesting computers in attendance. The name they gave it was DeskMini, which can include a Micro-STX motherboard inside, measuring only 210 mm x 157.5 mm x 81.9 mm. But what makes this DeskMini so interesting?

DeskMini is a min-PC with the VR Ready seal

DeskMini is a tiny computer in Micro-STX format that looks for minimalism but without sacrificing power.

  • On the one hand, any Intel Celeron / Pentium / i3 / i5 / i7 processor can be included in socket 1151 (up to an i7 7700K). It supports up to a maximum of 32GB of DDR4 memory at 2400 MHz in 2 SO-DIMM slots. Account with 2 SATA III ports (with power connectors) and 3 M2 ports (two of which support type 2280/2260 M.2 PCIe 3 × 4 or a SATA SSD, while the other only supports a PCIe Gen3x4 based SSD) As for the graphics card, you can choose an NVIDIA GTX 1060 or an AMD Radeon RX 460/470/480.

Graphics cards are MXM Type-B up to 120W, and display outputs include 1 HDMI port with 4K 60Hz compatibility; 1 DisplayPort and 1 Mini-DP. The front panel also includes a Thunderbolt 3 port with USB 3.1 Type-C, a single USB 3.0 port, 1 MIC-in, 1 headphone output with MIC, and a single USB 2.0 slot on the side.

At the back we find a Gigabit LAN port and 2 USB 3.0 ports. DeskMini also includes a special expansion card: An M2 slot designed specifically to house a Wi-Fi + BT module.

Asrock DeskMini Z270M has the VR Ready seal, so it should have the minimum power for virtual reality. At the moment its price and release date are unknown.
