Russian company Deus has unveiled its first Odin glasses for SteamVR, which it hopes to launch with 4K high-resolution displays and a tracking system that can cover larger areas.
VR Odin glasses will offer 4K resolution and will be compatible with all SteamVR games
The Odin headphones will offer users two screens with a resolution of 2160 × 2160, which translates to a combined 4320 × 2160 resolution and a field of view of 110 degrees, representing a resolution increase of almost 7.2 times over the HTC Vive and 2 times over the HTC Vive Pro. Also, Deus ' Horus ' laser stations are said to offer wider angle projections than Valve's Lighthouse system, offering a maximum tracking area of 200 square meters, supporting more base stations to cover larger areas. This is very positive because it will allow more freedom of movement.
In February, Deus plans to launch its Odin Pre headphones, offering developers a 3DoF controller. This model will have an estimated cost of $ 1, 100 and is intended for developers and business users. A refined consumer version of the glasses will launch in summer 2019 with 6DoF drivers, which offer better tracking and an Oculus-style appearance.
The Odin is said to be the first VR glasses that will use VirtualLink's standard USB-C cable to connect, although at this time it is not known whether end users will have the option of using other types of connectors, either through an adapter or otherwise.
Deus plans to showcase his 4K Odin VR headsets at CES 2019.
