Discord is updated by adding game tab, a game launcher

Discord continues to work to secure its position as the dominant platform in live video game broadcasts. The platform has released its Game Tab update to expand its feature set.

Discord's Game Tab is a place where gamers can start their favorite games, catch up on news related to the world of video games, and check out what their friends are playing to join the party. This new functionality is already being extended to platform users, which means that these functions should be available to all users over the next few days, offering an excellent opportunity to see for yourself what the Game Tab brings to the platform.

The following screenshot shows a lot of what the app is allowed to do, though it remains to be seen how the news feed is updated and if all games can be added to the Discord Quick Launcher. Furthermore, updating the games tab will come in handy for players who are part of big chats or have lots of friends online, as the larger tab area makes it much easier to see how many friends are playing specific games.

This new area adds much of Steam's functionality to Discord, allowing Discord to further replace Steam as a social gaming platform. For now, it is unknown how Discord plans to further expand its service throughout the remainder of this year and next 2019, especially after its partnership with Microsoft.
