New catalyst 14.9 whql drivers available

AMD has released the new Catalyst 14.9 WHQL graphics drivers that provide improved compatibility and bug fixes in addition to providing substantial and varied performance enhancements. Here is a summary of what this new version incorporates.

AMD claims that its new graphics drivers feature considerable improvements to graphics performance, including:

  • Assassin's Creed IV: Up to 25% higher on CrossFireX configurations.

    Batman Arkham Origins: Up to 20% for the Radeon R9 290X GPU, scaled up to 70% in CrossFireX configurations.

    Bioshock Infinite: Up to 5% higher for Radeon R9 295X2 / 290X / 290 GPUs.

    Company of Heroes 2: Up to 8% higher for Radeon R9 295X2 / 290X / 290 GPUs.

    Crysis 3: Up to 10% higher for Radeon R9 295X2 / 290X / 290 and R9 270X / 270 GPUs.

    Grid Auto Sport: Increased performance in CrossFireX configurations.

    Lichdom: Superior performance in Mono-GPU and CrossFireX configurations.

    Murdered Soul Suspect: Up to 6% higher for Radeon R9 295X2 / 290X / 290 GPUs, up to 50% higher than 1440P 16X AF for Radeon R9 290X GPU, and up to 75% scaling on CrossFireX configurations.

    Plants vs. Zombies: Radeon R9 290X gets a boost of up to 15% on 1600P, up to 11% on 1080P, and CrossFireX scaling of up to 75%.

    Star Craft II: Up to 20% higher for Radeon R9 290X GPUs.

    Tomb Raider: Up to 5% higher for Radeon R9 295X2 / 290X / 290 GPUs.

    Watch Dogs: Up to 9% higher for Radeon R9 295X2 / 290X / 290 and Radeon R9 270X270 GPUs, up to 20% higher in CrossFireX configurations and improvements to Frame Pacing technology.

    Wildstar: Up to 30% higher for Radeon R9 / R7 200 Series GPUs in mono-GPU and CrossFireX configurations.

They also provide enhancements to laptops with AMD GPUs and AMD Enduro technology:

  • Battlefield 4: Up to 21% better performance for the Radeon HD 8970M GPU.

    Star Swarm: Up to 274% higher performance for the Radeon HD 8970M GPU.

    Thief: Up to 14% higher performance for the Radeon HD 8970M GPU.

In addition to all of this, AMD has updated the user interface in the Catalyst Control Center, now allowing better control of video color and now allowing color depth to be configured on monitors connected by HDMI or DisplayPort.
