Doom Eternal does not work in native 4K in Google Stadia

The news is surprising given Doom Eternal's position as one of Stadia's top titles, Google used it to demonstrate the technology to the press and was also promised that it would run in "True 4K" a year ago.

When Google revealed its streaming platform at the Game Developers Conference in 2019, id chief Marty Stratton took the stage to say that Doom Eternal would take place in “true 4K, ” prompting a round of applause from the public.

Although the game would not work in native 4K, it would scale the image from 1800p on 4K compatible screens. On FullHD screens, the game will work in 1080p and 60 fps. Remember that 4K is equivalent to a resolution of 2160p, so it is a bit far from achieving that image sharpness, but if 60 fps are maintained. Currently to play 4K in Google Stadia, a Stadia Pro subscription is required.

Google Stadia should have enough power to run the game in 4K and 60 fps with its 10.7 teraflops, but it is not possible in Doom Eternal. Is there an optimization problem with the game?

The minimum requirements revealed by Bethesda are requiring a GTX 1060 to play at 60 fps with a 'low' configuration, which already anticipates a game that will be demanding, or that has not had a good optimization. However, Red Dead Redemption 2 also does not work in native 4K on the Google platform.

Doom Eternal will launch on March 20. We will keep you informed.
