Doom is upgraded to vulkan to improve its performance
Table of contents:
DirectX dominates video games for PC but from time to time a renowned title based on OpenGl appears, the last of them has been Doom that was released a little over a month ago and is now updated to the promising Vulkan API to offer a better performance.
Doom already supports Vulkan after last update
With this move Doom becomes the first game to support OpenGl's new successor low-level API. Thanks to a new update, users will be able to play Doom in both OpenGl and Vulkan to be able to use the one that best suits the team's characteristics.
Vulkan is the rival of DirectX 12 and has several advantages over the Microsoft API such as being compatible with many operating systems, remember that DX 12 is limited to Windows 10. Vulkan takes several features in common with DirectX 12, one of them is the Asynchronous Compute Engines that has done so well for AMD hardware by getting along better with this feature than Nvidia's solutions.
AMD can breathe easier now, so far its cards have been weighed down in Doom by supporting only OpenGl 4.3 while Nvidia has been compatible with the latest OpenGl 4.5, more optimized and capable of offering better performance. With the arrival of Vulkan both are in the same conditions and the winner will be the one capable of extracting more performance from the game under the new low-level API.
