A major new leak on the upcoming 7nm EPYC 'Rome' processors happened a few hours ago, in which we have the specs for two processors in this series, 32- and 64-core.

They are two pieces of the 7 nm EPYC 'Rome' generation

With the launch so close, it's no wonder two giant pieces of AMD have leaked online. The two processors are engineering samples belonging to the 64-core, 128-wire EPYC 'Rome' generation and another 32-core, 64-wire. Both built on TSMC's 7nm FinFET process technology and based on the company's Zen 2 architecture. The chips appeared as entries in the SiSoft Sandra database.

The 64-core chip is codenamed ZX1406E2VJUG5_22 / 14_N. Based on this name, it can be deduced that the processor has a base clock speed of 1.4 GHz and 2.2 GHz in Turbo. Unfortunately, we still don't know the TDP rating for this chip, nor the final clock speeds. Being engineering samples, the clock speeds will always be lower than in the final designs. What we can say so far, however, is that these chips will have gigantic performance.

Going through the 32-core model, this has the code name: ZS1711E3VIVG5_24 / 17_N. This code means that it doesn't have much higher clock speeds than its older brother. In fact, it works at a base frequency of 1.7 GHz and a turbo frequency of 2.4 GHz.

Preliminary Specifications

CPU CORES / THREADS Base / Turbo L3 Cache TDP
EPYC Rome ES 64/128 1.4 / 2.2 GHz 256 MB TBA
EPYC Rome ES 32/64 1.7 / 2.4 GHz 128 MB TBA
EPYC 7601 32/64 2.2 / 3.2 GHz 64 MB 180W

AMD currently offers up to 32 cores on its enthusiastic X399 platform with Threadripper, so it will be very interesting to see if the company is going to increase the number of cores on this platform again as well.
