DRIFT DR111 is the new model that the Malaga brand has recently presented. An excellent imitation leather gaming chair that debuts alongside the DR50 and DR125 models, of a lower category than the one we are analyzing today. Rather we will be at the level of the DR300 and even DR450 in chassis quality, finishes and ergonomics. In this case we have a model that supports 150 KG and is available in 4 different color combinations to always get it to our liking.
Let's start the review of the most versatile model of the three presented, but not before thanking DRIFT for the trust placed in us by giving us this chair for analysis.
DRIFT DR111 technical characteristics
Unboxing
We all know that Chair Unboxing is long and tedious enough to move the huge bulk and get to assemble the chair entirely. The brand has chosen to introduce absolutely all the parts of the DRIFT DR111 chair disassembled and protected by abundant bubble wrap and polyethylene foam in the most sensitive parts. This box is of considerable dimensions and it will be better if we have someone to help us, since it weighs about 22 Kg.
On the outside, we only see numerous screenprints of the DRIFT brand, although the model is not specified, (at least not that I have seen) . The opening will be made through the widest face, with the box stretched out so that everything can be removed perfectly. And be careful, always with the logo in a natural position.

Construction and design
The DRIFT DR111 is a new generation chair of the brand, which has been presented together with two other models. With these additions, it is intended to cover the mid and medium / high range of gaming chairs, proposing even more variety than the available quality, which are not few. It is one of the most recognized brands in this segment, most users opt for models that are versatile and present themselves at competitive prices without ever giving up on quality.
This time we have a package that, fully assembled, measures 70 cm wide, 70 cm deep and between 129 and 135 mm high. Measures very similar without a doubt to the DR125 and the DR150. Consequently, all of them support about 150 Kg of maximum weight and heights of between 180 and 190 cm maximum, so it will be a good option for corpulent and overweight people. In any case, we recommend going to a superior model in case we are especially tall or heavy people, since we will find denser foams and perhaps greater durability.
Precisely speaking foam, it is presented to us as a high-density mold and manufactured in a single block for backrest and seat. In both cases it offers us an average density of 50 Kg / m 3, and the truth is that both elements have a good thickness that gives us a feeling of durability. As a final finish, we have upholstery made of high-quality soft polyurethane available in two color combinations.
In the analysis model we have a main black color and a secondary color also in black, but simulating carbon fiber. For the most daring, they can choose a secondary color blue, green or red, quite common and continuous tones in the brand. In this regard, perhaps we miss more novelty, and different colors than what the rest offers. A positive aspect of the finish is that the polyurethane cleans very easily, and supports traditional cleaning products without staining or breaking. And a negative one is the heat it gives in the summer.
Components and performance
After this short overview, let's take a closer look at the various components of the DRIFT DR111.
Legs and wheels
We will start with its base, the first thing we must mount and remove from the bundle. In this model, the construction has been made of hard plastic (nylon) of enough thickness and at the same time little weight. We would have liked that it was made of metal, but of course, for that we have the DRIFT DR150 or DR300 models, so it is a possible way to adjust its price, lower the weight and differentiate it from the rest.
In the upper area of each leg, a protrusion has been enabled to support the feet there and that the rest of the elements are not scratched or worn. We trust in its durability and strength, since the manufacturer ensures those 150 Kg of maximum weight. The 5-foot star occupies a space of 70 cm in diameter, being a standard measurement for most chairs.
The wheels are also made of nylon plastic, with a wheel diameter of 60 mm, of which we find two of them independent in each unit. It does not have any type of brake, nor protection in the tread. They are wheels provided with 10 spokes and bearing bearings. To install them, we will only have to insert them into each hole, an internal washer will take care of preventing them from falling out. The most important thing is to know that they roll very well as they are large and that as they are hard plastic, their wear will not be a concern.
Piston and movement mechanism
DRIFT DR111 installs a class 4 gas piston, which supports 150 Kg of maximum weight. It is the same one used by models with similar characteristics of the brand, so they already have a long journey and more than proven reliability. The maximum travel will be about 70 mm, starting from a height of 40 cm, and reaching up to 47 cm in the highest position. The measurements provided by the manufacturer do not seem to be too exact, since in some points they do not coincide with each other. In any case, it is not a chair that rises too high, but up to a height of 190 cm, the user will be comfortable enough.
The support mechanism is presented with a very long actuation lever, which this time will be activated by pressing down instead of pulling towards us. With it we can block the swing that the mechanism allows us, which will be between 0 ° to 14 °. In the same way, we can tighten or loosen the spring to facilitate or stop this rocking of the chair. Something to keep in mind is that the hole where the piston is attached is not greased, at least in our case, so we recommend at least adding a little petroleum jelly or oil to avoid squeaks in a short period of time.
Many people associate the squeaks with the poor quality of the chair, but it is simply for lack of lubrication in the elements that move, lever, backrest, piston and seat. It happens to almost all chairs and you just have to locate the noise zone and re-grease it.
Back and cushions
Now we will take a closer look at the DRIFT DR111 backrest, and above all show you detailed photos of its texture and finishes, which is what it is all about. And as we see, it is a bucket-type backrest, with quite large side ears, although they will allow us to be comfortable even if we are very wide. This is thanks to a measured inclination of the same, and its thick padding of 6 cm, much higher than for example some Sharkoon or, without going any further, the DR125. In this regard, it may be less aggressive, but more comfortable and elegant for the office.
The entire backrest is covered in synthetic leather canvas made of high quality polyurethane, very padded and with quite elegant, minimalist and discreet finishes. The completely black model has a carbon fiber effect on the canvas, and also a gloss that contrasts with the main color and has a rough texture. The two holes in the cervical area and the DRIFT logo sewn with thread on the headrest cannot be missing.
The size of this backrest is about 58 cm at the widest part and 35 cm in the central lumbar area. Its height is 90 cm, making that maximum of 135 cm fully raised. The material used for the padding is FOAM foam of 50 kg / m 3 density, so it will be a relatively hard backing. In both lateral areas we will find the three holes to fix it to the seat and the trims.
As for the cushions, we always have a thicker and wider lumbar and a slightly smaller and narrower cervical one. They present the same exterior finish and it seems that interior, since they are considerably hard. I miss a somewhat more ergonomic shape , especially in the cervical cushion, and that it is a little softer. This is always a matter of taste and posture, although they are not uncomfortable in general.
Nor should we forget about the trims, which in this case are a total of 5. One for the piston, and two on each side for the seat as normal. They are made of hard plastic and will be fixed to the chair using star head screws. The small holes for the screws do not have any buffer to improve the appearance.
Seat and armrests
We continue to analyze the DRIFT DR111 gaming chair seat, which is quite similar in materials to the backrest, if not the same. The entire use part is covered by polyurethane canvas with its two 6 cm thick side ears that will better grip our rear to the chair. In this case, the ears are slightly open to the outside and not very raised, so that, again, wide people feel comfortable. We also have two secondary color zones, and excellent finishes on the seams and edges. Great brand work here.
The measurements of the seat are no less than 60 cm wide at its base, and 52 cm deep. Quite wide as we see and with foam of exactly the same density as the backrest. It has a good thickness, but perhaps it is not a sufficient density for people with more than 100-120 Kg, since, in the long run, the foam will give and sink due to the heavy weight. In this case, it is better to go for densities between 60 and 65 Kgm 3.
Something that we did not like is the coating used in the lower area. To cover the iron frame of the seat support, a fine cloth of these found in the bags of some products has been used. The problem with this fabric is that it degrades quite quickly, and in the end we will have to very possibly remove it. Nor is it something that worries us, since many chairs do not have it and have all the visible structure, and not for that reason they are of worse quality.
Placing the DRIFT DR111 seat on its side, we will see much better the mechanical system that allows the backrest to be moved. We have the lever on the right side, and it allows a tilt of between 90 ° and 135 °. Sufficient turn, although not stratospheric, this way we make sure that the fully reclined stability is quite good, not giving the feeling that we are going to fall. This is due to the fact that the legs protrude from the back quite a bit, as the seat is connected to the piston far back.
We finish with the appearance and functions of the armrests, which in DRIFT DR111 we do not have them pre-installed at the factory, which would lighten the assembly process. In fact, we will need two screws on each arm to fix it. I would have liked more than 4 , to avoid possible swings over time. Useful measurements are 27 cm long and 10 cm wide.
Those of this model allow movement in the three axes of space:
- Up and down on a fairly wide path just by tapping on the outer tab. Back and forth, with four positions Rotation out or in, with 3 positions
Only the movement in or out of the base would be missing, although that is left for higher priced models. Something very positive is that they have a polyurethane coating for greater comfort and that, despite having enough mechanisms, they feel very well subject and without wobbles. The core is metal, but the entire outer shell is chrome plated plastic.
Final look of DRIFT DR111
After half an hour riding this chair, we have a great end result. The entire process is well explained in the instruction manual with graphic sketches of the step-by-step procedure. In this combination of main and secondary black color, a very beautiful and elegant chair is made, with excellent finishes and even valid for office.
Keep in mind that the piston mechanism is already crimped, although not the coupling in the base or seat. This will cause some squeaking after a few months, nothing that can not be solved with a few drops of lubricant. Remember as always, that once the piston has been inserted into its two holes, it will be very difficult to disassemble the chair again.
Final words and conclusion about DRIFT DR111
DRIFT presents a new generation chair of high quality in its finishes. We should not be guided by its specification, since it outperforms the DDR125 and DR150, standing on par with previous models such as the DR300. The quality of its upholstery is noticeable just by touching it, in polyurethane and available in 4 color combinations.
As for ergonomics, we are well served, with a reclining seat, lockable rocking and 3D armrests to be able to adjust it completely to our liking. Nor are the two cushions missing to improve the user's position, which are made just like the rest of the chair.
In general terms, it is a very comfortable chair, with a very hard foam, but it adapts to the contour very well. The side ears are very thick and thanks to this padding they offer good support without sacrificing space available for heavier people. Anyway, we recommend this chair for people less than 120 Kg, and less than 1.90 meters, since its seat reaches a maximum height of about 47 cm plus the extra that gives its own thickness.

As for cost-upgradeable options, we miss metal legs instead of hard plastic. We do not doubt its strength, but its wear and aesthetic finishes, perhaps this is its weak point. Small aspects such as the fabric in the seat base or wheels without brakes can be improved, although they do not compromise the final quality.
All this we must comment and analyze in the framework of the cost of the product, since this DRIFT DR111 we find it available today in VSGamers at a price of 240 euros, which is to consider. Since we are talking about a similar cost to models that until now were located in the mid / high range of the brand. We will keep an eye on how the market evolves, but at this price, the aforementioned DR400 is a better option.
