Surveillance drones with infinite battery can stay in the air forever

CyPhy is a manufacturer of surveillance drones that adapted military technology for use in a device that is sold to ordinary consumers, the PARC. The device is used with a system that keeps it powered during the flight, which not only expands the range of the equipment, as it allows it to remain in the air for indefinite periods of time. The idea is that this type of drone is ideal for surveillance applications.

The PARC can reach up to 150 meters in height and uses an extremely thin type of cable to transmit data and power: basically, it would be as if the drone remained connected all the time.

This feature makes the PARC a limited unit in terms of mobility, something intended by the manufacturer to perform the product as a surveillance function, or even used as a type of repeater antenna.

If the wire breaks or becomes disconnected, the PARC can connect an internal battery that gives it the ability to keep the device in the air for some time, and give its handler a chance to get it safely.

The use of the cable, which keeps the drone effectively pinned to the ground, makes the device an interesting feature in surveillance situations, since the PARC can float in the air, along with the camera for long periods. At events that involve large crowds of people, PARC could be an interesting tool for security agencies.

CyPhy has not released information on availability and unit prices. The promise is that the PARC will be available to consumers in 2016.
