For this reason, Ecovacs has focused on incorporating many of the functions that other robot vacuum cleaners already have. Even the newest, such as integration with the mobile app and with the voice assistant Alexa. The latter is the biggest novelty with respect to the previous model N79. All this without increasing the final price of the product. However, to find out if it's really worth it, we present our analysis.

Unboxing

The Deebot N79S comes well protected by having two packages. An outer box containing the main packaging. Within this, the different devices that are part of the robot are embedded in a cardboard holder. This prevents them from moving, damaging and hitting.

Inside we find specifically:

Design and dimensions

At first glance we are faced with the typical design that all these types of robots have . A rounded design with a diameter of 33 cm and a low profile of only 7.8 cm that allows it to sneak under a multitude of furniture. Its weight is around 3.25 Kg.

On the front it has a bumper equipped with several infrared proximity sensors and thus avoid possible frontal shocks. At no time is this area of the sensors affected by the manufacture of a small rim on the bumper that protects it.

Continuing with the side of the Deebot N79S, on the left side is the on / off button next to a charging connector in case you want to charge it directly without using the charging station. Near this button, just at the rear, there is a mechanism by means of which it is possible to easily remove the dust container. This deposit has a capacity of 300 ml. Once removed, we can also access the different filters it houses and take them out in case they need cleaning. We find a mesh filter that can be washed with water, a sponge filter and a high efficiency filter. The latter traps numerous harmful particles such as mites, mold and other substances that can cause allergies.

The upper part of the robot, instead of presenting a brilliant design similar to that of other brands and technological products, has a rather matte finish with a linear texture in dark gray. This surface houses a button to start the automatic cleaning mode and a led to notify that the Wi-Fi function is active. In the center stands out the name of the product. It is a pity that you do not have an LCD screen to show more indications and other settings.

The lower zone is the last and most important. On the front sides each of the two side brushes are located, which are easily removable for later exchange. In between we find the wheel in charge of directing the robot, the metal pins necessary for recharging in the charging station and a sensor designed to prevent the device from falling from the heights or down the stairs. The main brush is housed in the central area. This is responsible for collecting both the particles sent by the side brushes and those found. Unlike other brushes that have only bristles or only rubber sheets, this one has a mixture of both. Alternating between one type and another. On both sides of the brush are the main wheels, larger and prepared with a small suspension to overcome some obstacles that are not very high.

Initial start-up

The first time before using the Deebot N79S it was necessary to leave it charging in the charging station that we had previously connected to the electrical network. Without forgetting to leave about two meters of free space on each side of the station.

It is necessary to ensure before each cleaning that there are no small objects on the floor, cables, shoes with laces or carpets with long fringes. Well, all this can make the robot get stuck until we go to rescue it. Luckily, in these situations, it stays in sleep mode to avoid draining the battery.

Once the Deebot N79S was put to work on a tiled floor and in automatic mode, it has been found that its cleaning efficiency is really very good. Its suction power in standard mode collects all dust. In automatic mode, the robot works in a straight line and as soon as it encounters an obstacle it changes direction. This mode is the most used, but it has the disadvantage that small areas can be left uncleaned. In these cases, you have to wait for subsequent cleanings before you finish cleaning those areas.

Sometimes it also happens that, due to its size, sometimes there are places that it cannot reach because some piece of furniture has not allowed it or because they are low. In these situations, perhaps it is possible to move some furniture, but obviously, it is difficult to solve the issue of low furniture like most sofas.

In cases like the above, it is necessary to resort to cleaning for life with the broom or the mop. Because a characteristic that this model does not incorporate is that of scrubbing.

Once the Deebot N79S has cleaned all over the house or runs low on battery, he goes to his charging station himself to recharge batteries. Generally, this tour runs smoothly, but there are times when he has been wandering around and missing a room rather than returning to his base. It is a problem that luckily has happened a few times compared to the number of cleanings.

Noise

During cleaning in standard mode the noise of the Deebot N79S is around 67 decibels. A fairly acceptable and common level in the quietest models. Therefore, it is not annoying at any time if you are close at home. In maximum suction modes, decibels can be increased to approximately 75.

Remote control and APP

The management of the robot functions can be selected both from the remote control and from the app that can be downloaded for the smartphone. In both cases the available modes are as follows:

Automatic cleaning mode. Localized cleaning mode, in which the Deebot N79S focuses on a specific area and cleans it in a spiral pattern. In this mode the suction power is maximum. The set, results in an excellent cleaning of any area. Corner cleaning mode. In this mode the Deboot focuses on going around the edges of the house. In this case, the suction power also increases to the maximum level. One-room mode. Recommended when you only want to clean a single room. In this case it is necessary to close the door. Return mode to the charging station.

In the event that it is necessary to correct the direction of the robot manually, direction controls are available.

In addition to the different modes, the robot can be programmed to clean at a certain time on the days that we want. In the case of the app, we can activate the robot to clean even from outside the home.

Integration with Alexa is one of the functions that unfortunately we have not been able to test since we did not have it. It is also not a function that many people will use in Spain since the language of use is currently only English.

Battery

The Deebot N79S has a lithium battery with a capacity of 2600 mAh. This allows an average cleaning time of 10 0 minutes. In general it usually takes about an hour and a half. Once the charge drops and the vacuum cleaner returns to its charging station, recharging takes around 4 hours. To notify the full charge, the led on its top changes to blue.

Final words and conclusion about the ECOVACS Robotics DEEBOT N79S

We have been pleasantly surprised by the cleaning capacity of this robot. Usually he does a really commendable job. Leaving the floor quite clean. Only on some occasions it is possible to find an area that needs a light pass, although we can always take our robot to the area that we want it to review.

It is still necessary to leave the house clear before the robot goes into action and it will hardly reach all the corners we want. That makes it help us in cleaning, but it does not exempt us from it.

The possibility of use through the app opens a small range of possibilities by allowing us to manage the robot from outside the home if necessary.

Among the negative points, we must highlight the problem with the return to the station that sometimes suffers, although it is not usual. On the other hand, the possibility of scrubbing is missing and the company has a pending point by not including any replacement of side brushes like other companies do.

The Deebot N79S, therefore, is a product with its defects, but one that we will value more for its virtues and cleaning capacity. Above all, taking into account its price around € 250.
