Until now we only knew about the existence of the Intel Z390 chipset due to roadmaps that the American company had revealed a while ago, where we saw that this chipset and all usable motherboards were going to be launched in the second half of 2018.

Intel Z390 in the second half of 2018

With the latest information on Ice Lake, which we discussed in a recent article, some details about the Z390 chipset have also come to light.

The leak has come straight out of a Eurocom representative, who reveals that the chipset won't go hand-in-hand with the Z370 (which launches on October 5 alongside Coffee Lake) but rather will do so much later after probably the B360 chipset for the most modest motherboards.

This new Z390 chipset would be prepared to support 8-core Intel processors, that is, prepared to support Ice Lake that will come with that number of cores, but we do not know exactly what will happen to the Z370 motherboards and these new processors, the latter is keeps it a mystery.

The roadmap

The new Ice Lake processors are going to be manufactured in a 10 nm process and the motherboards with Z390 chipsets are the ones that would be taking full advantage of this new architecture, which should represent a great advance in performance and electricity consumption.

Intel is moving very strongly during these months, with the launch of Coffee Lake and next year with Ice Lake, trying to regain lost ground against Ryzen from AMD.
