There is speculation that Intel is preparing a new batch of Coffee Lake desktop processors in the coming months, and an unannounced Core i7-8670 has appeared today in the GFXBench database that would be confirming those rumors.

New Core i7-8670 'Coffee Lake'

The Core i7-8670 appears on GFXBench to the surprise of many today. Assuming the information is accurate, it is interesting that Intel is positioning this chip as part of the Core i7 family. As TechPowerUp points out , Intel has reserved the 87xx number scheme for its core Core i7 and 86xx desktop CPUs for its Core i5 lineup, the i7-8670 would be reversing this trend.

The unreleased Core i7-8670 is a 6-core, 12-wire processor, just as we expected from a Coffee Lake, with a base clock speed of 3.1GHz. There is no mention of the frequency when the Turbo is operating. We don't know the processor cache, but if as an i7, it will probably also have 12MB of L3 cache.

Of course, we also have no mention of the price it will have, but knowing that this CPU will be an intermediate variant between the Core i7-8700K and an i5 8600, its price should be around 250 to 300 dollars.

As for performance, GFXBench focuses mainly on graphics. The Core i7-8670 uses Intel's built-in UHD 630 graphics and scores similar to that of a Core i7-8700 with the same iGPU. With just a 100MHz difference in CPU clocks between the two, this new variant could end up being a popular choice.
