Elgato key light air review in Spanish (full analysis)

A while back we reviewed the first Elgato Key Light lighting system, but Corsair's specific division for content creators was left wanting more. So here we present Elgato Key Light Air, another lighting system oriented this time to desks. It is ideal to place on them with its solid base and get adequate lighting for CAM-type shots of our face.

Like its big sister, we have high-power LEDs from the OSRAM brand that will give us a light output of 1400 Lumens with indirect lighting and manageable both on our PC and by smartphone in power and color temperature.

Elgato Key Light Air technical characteristics

Unboxing

Elgato Key Light Air has come to us in a large rather elongated but relatively flat cardboard box, although it must be recognized that it is not the most optimized packaging in the world, mainly due to its long arm. On their faces we have enough photos of the product along with a lot of information about it, so that we do not go shopping blindly.

We will open this box by one of the narrowest sides, and take out the large cardboard mold that allows us to store all the components. This is an egg cup, and in it we have each accessory perfectly accommodated tucked inside a protective plastic. Likewise, a cardboard cover in which comes the entire procedure for installing the lighting system.

We see that it is a bundle very similar to that of the other light that we analyzed, so without further ado, it would be time to start assembling the equipment.

Exterior design

We begin this in-depth analysis focusing on each of the elements that make up Elgato Key Light Air, ultimately being the luminaire, the support arm and the base.

Glare-free and dimmable light panel

We must start with the most important thing, which will be the Elgato Key Light Air luminaire, projector or light, which is significantly smaller in size than the previous Key Light model. In this case it is clearly oriented to light direct planes of our face or recordings of objects close to the camera. The reflector panel measures 205x205x35 mm, so it is a square configuration with a useful area of ​​300 cm ², just half that of the Key Light model.

It is built with a high quality all- metal frame. In it we see all the light control elements, being a DC-IN connector for power, a hole in which we have already installed the support and movement mechanism, the RESET button and the on / off switch. Likewise, we have multiple openings in the form of a grid to allow the heat generated by the LEDs to be removed at maximum power.

In the front area we have a satin opaline glass panel that allows the light to be distributed equally over the entire projection surface. A smaller surface does not imply more glare, since obviously the power decreases to 1400 lumens. The truth is that the uniformity of light and the quality of lighting is exceptional, combining this high power at close range with a fairly low glare coefficient that we can also modify with the software it includes.

This power is achieved thanks to 80 OSRAM Premium LEDs installed in the metal frame around the satin panel. This is how more uniform and indirect lighting is achieved. The maximum power consumption is 25W and the color rendering coefficient over 92%, which to give you an idea, is the figure that is used in special projectors for museums and art galleries. In other words, the color reproduction will be almost perfect.

Telescopic stand and desk base

As for the support of the Elgato Key Light Air, we have a rod made of quite thick and rigid metal with a length that starts from 60 cm completely folded. Thanks to a telescopic system using a manual wheel we can raise the equipment to 88 cm plus 18 mm thick base.

It is a good detail to have a screen-printed scale on the inner tube, to know what is the exact measurement that we are going to use so that our subscribers see us in the best possible way. Likewise, the upper part of the bar has an inward curvature to improve the ergonomics of the Elgato Key Light Air.

And precisely speaking of ergonomics, this is basically achieved with the ball joint that is in charge of connecting the light with the support arm. With it we can move in orientation towards all directions of space, having a fairly fine adjustment of the whole. The ball joint is made up of three elements: the moving ball, the clamping sleeve and the adjusting wheel.

But we must make a small criticism of the design of this ball joint, since the sleeve consists of two separate pieces and the truth is that when installing or loosening it we must be very careful not to loosen the wheel too much, since everything will fall off to the ground. With the photo above you will understand what we mean. And we would have liked more the one used by the Key Light for being something more secure.

Regarding the base of the Elgato Key Light Air, there is not much to say about it. It is also made of metal with a plastic casing measuring 205x205x18 mm, exactly the same as the light. It weighs 1 kg by itself, while the rest of the elements amount to 550 g. To join the arm and base we only have to screw a wheel on the bottom of it without any complications.

Installation and configuration with software

We have already seen the complete design, so it is time to see how to configure Elgato Key Light Air and pair it to our computer. For this we will need a Wi-Fi connection to interact with the lighting, since it incorporates a card inside that connects directly to our PC and then with the router.

Well, the first thing we are going to do is download the Elgato Control Center application and install it on our PC. At this point we must take into account the compatibility of this Elgato Key Light Air, which will be as follows:

We are very successful to have opted for this method, since not all computers have Bluetooth connectivity, which although it would be cheaper, would also be only accessible for laptops. The method is summarized in that we need a PC with Wi-Fi to send Elgato Key Light Air the network credentials (password and user). After this, the router will manage the connection between focus and equipment, nothing is by magic.

Once the application is installed on our computer, we will connect Elgato Key Light Air to the power with the adapter and we will turn on the light. It will turn on and off for about 15 seconds first, then stay on. Do not worry, it is the normal startup process of the computer. Remember to have Wi-Fi on.

Arrived here, the dropdown of the taskbar program should notify us of the presence of Elgato Key Light Air.

So we click on the "+" and after a little configuration process, the device will have been paired to the PC. If for any case we are shown a connection error, we simply reconnect the Wi-Fi and the lighting bulb and the PC will be paired without doing anything, it seems that this is normal, since it happened to us with the Key Light and it has happened again with this one.

From this moment, we will not need to have an active Wi-Fi connection in the equipment, it will be enough to have it connected to the router. The computer already knows the password so every time it is turned on it will connect on its own.

The program allows us to modify both the light power and the color temperature between 2900 K (warm light) and 7000 K (cold light). Likewise, we can update the firmware of the device and also integrate it with other Elgato products such as the Stream Deck, so that by means of a button we can turn the equipment on or off, or modify its light.

And it is not all, because we also have an application for Android and iOS that will connect to the Wi-Fi network in the same way and we will be able to do exactly the same as from our PC.

While Key Light is aimed at providing more powerful and suitable lighting for large backgrounds such as chrome or small rooms in general, Key Light Air is designed for our face. We have a maximum power of 1400 lumens with a very low glare and that will never bother our eyes while recording. Inside we have 80 high quality LEDs manufactured by OSRAM with CRI> 92% that we can regulate in color temperature and power from our PC or from the phone.

The manufacture of this product also offers a great quality in the finishes, although a slightly more elaborate ball joint to install the light panel would be appreciated. Not because of its mobility, but because it is somewhat cumbersome to install and move the light.

Finally Elgato Key Light Air will be available for an official price of 129.99 euros. The truth is that it is not a precisely adjusted price, we already know the brand and generally the cost is high. In any case, it is a highly recommended system for content creators, since investing in quality is always doing things well for the public.
