Elgato key light review in Spanish (full analysis)

Elgato Key Light is another premiere for this 2019 of the leading brand in products for content creators. The arsenal of new products is joined by this lighting panel or projector with 12 high-power OSRAM LEDs with a diffuser to avoid glare. Best of all, we can control the lighting level and color temperature from our own PC, just having a Wi-Fi connection.

We begin this analysis not without first thanking Corsair for giving us their product and for the confidence they show in our analyzes.

Elgato Key Light technical characteristics

Unboxing

We start with the Unboxing of this peculiar product Elgato Key Light, which comes in a large, rigid cardboard box, although very flat. The entire exterior surface is decorated with the colors of Elgato, that is, blue and black with a photograph on each main face that are the same that we can find on the product's website.

Due to the large surface area, the manufacturer has put a lot of information about the spotlight in the box, so that nobody blindly goes shopping. We have its compatibility, dimensions, characteristics and what we need (Wi-Fi).

Now we proceed to open this box carefully and remove all the large cardboard egg-shaped mold that is responsible for accommodating the parts in it, and in which we can never reposition the objects as they were. In this way we can find the following elements:

Perhaps the greatest peculiarity comes from the installation guide, which is simply a cardboard that is responsible for protecting the contents of the box. In it come all the steps that we must take to make Elgato Key Light work on our PC.

Exterior design

Well, we start by giving a good overview of the different accessories we have for this Elgato Key Light. It basically consists of three elements, light, support and power.

Glare-free, high-power light panel

Starting with the most important thing, the projector, light panel or whatever you want to call it (technically it is a projector) has dimensions of 350 mm wide, 250 mm high and 35 mm deep. The frame is entirely made of metal, it seems to be aluminum and all painted in black with decorative details on the back.

The lighting element is a satin opaline glass panel, which allows the lighting to be distributed evenly over its entire surface and thus give us a very balanced and glare-free light diffusion, even with the highest power configuration. This element is white in color and has a great thickness and rough feel to allow this diffusion.

Behind it are no less than 160 OSRAM Premium LEDs spread across the surface and highly durable, although the manufacturer does not specify its useful life. These LEDs will allow us to reach a luminous power of no less than 2500 lm (lumens). This would be equivalent to an incandescent bulb over 250W, or a 25W LED bulb causing strong glare. Best of all, we can modify the power to our liking and from our own PC.

In the same way, we can modify the color temperature of the light that affects us, from 2900K (sunset effect amber) to 7000K (arctic blue). Remember that the higher the color temperature the colder the light will be, or what is the same, the more blue it will tend to be, for example, the clear sky in summer is around 20, 000K of color temperature. From the point of view of utility, it is a great advantage for content creators, since with just a click they will be able to put the lighting that best suits them to record, or even to take photography.

If we now go to the back of this panel, we will find a small protruding square that is where all the necessary hardware is stored to bring this projector to life. We also have here the power connector and the button that performs the reset and on / off function. We take the opportunity to talk about consumption, which we have measured with the minimum and maximum lighting, resulting in 1.8W and 26W respectively. So we are not going to reach those 45W maximum, staying well below.

Triple height telescopic stand

The next important element is the mount, although this has less to count than the projector. It is simply a metal arm with an initial length of 55 cm, and which we can increase with two more extensions up to 125 cm. The system is typical of tightening and loosening of sleeves.

And we have no foot in this Elgato Key Light, but a flat clamp type grip with a threaded jaw system that allows us to grip it on tables or any edge less than 60mm thick.

At the top end we have a tip to screw the projector and leave it installed. Ensured to tighten this well to the support, since it could loosen with use. The fact is that this end is provided with a ball that allows it to rotate in all directions of space. Simply by loosening its fixing, we can place it just where we want.

That said, we will connect the equipment in the current and with the Wi-Fi of the PC activated, we will see that no device has yet been detected.

It will be time to turn on the bulb, it will first turn on and off for about 15 seconds, and then stay on. Do not worry, it is the normal startup process of the computer.

At this point, the dropdown of the taskbar program should notify us of the presence of Elgato Key Light.

So we click on the "+" and after a little configuration process, the device will have been paired to the PC. If for any case we are shown a connection error, we simply reconnect the Wi-Fi and the lighting bulb and they will be paired without doing anything.

We will notice that everything is perfect, when we see a dropdown with the brightness and color temperature control in the taskbar. We are going to move the potentiometers and we can see that the lighting changes immediately.

From this moment, we will not need to have an active Wi-Fi connection in the equipment, it will be enough to have it connected to the router. The method is simple, we need a PC with Wi-Fi to send Elgato Key Light the network credentials (password and username). After this, the router will manage the connection between focus and equipment, nothing is by magic.

Another of the great advantages of this software management is that it is compatible with other brand products, for example, Stream Deck, the effects tablet for streaming. From it we can modify the light or turn it off when we want.

If we open the options of the program, we will see that the firmware of the projector can be updated, and the IP address that the router has assigned to it is also shown.

Final words and conclusion about Elgato Key Light

And with this installation explanation we come to the end of our review, a different one for a different peripheral, and almost unique.

Elgato Key Light is a lighting projector specially created for content creators who need a front light source. It will be extremely useful to improve the image quality of our face, and especially if we have a chroma behind us. Although in this case it would be better to acquire two teams to eliminate shadows from both angles.

In regards to its lighting quality it is really good. With 2500 lumens of maximum power and the possibility of modifying the color temperature, they make it very versatile according to our needs. In addition, its glass panel does not give any glare and its uniformity is perfect.

Another of its qualities is the ability to interconnect with our PC, being able to control it without leaving the site, something very important if we are streaming or recording. It also supports integration with other Elgato products such as Stream Deck. Its 160 LEDs only consume 26W according to our records.

Finally, the mount is also of good quality and telescopic. Although I think that a small tripod mount, in case we have no place to fix it, would have been a great advantage. Its cost is not cheap, and any detail like this would be appreciated.

And speaking of availability and price, Elgato Key Light can be purchased at any physical store enabled and online, for a price of approximately 195 euros. We understand that it is not an affordable price for a focus, although its benefit is having almost unique systems in the segment.
