Intel core i9 specifications

Rumors about the upcoming i9-8950HK laptop processor have first emerged in November, when AIDA64 developers added ID support for i9-8000H. This chip is finally going to arrive according to a new leak that comes from an MSI laptop, which includes this chip and that reveals several of its specifications.

i9-8950HK can reach 4.8 GHz and comes with multiplier unlocked

The first thing we have to comment on the i9-8950HK is its turbo clock speed. This 6-core processor can reach a speed of 4.8 GHz, which is surprising for a laptop CPU, and not only that, it also comes with the multiplier unlocked for us to do whatever we want with the frequencies from the BIOS.

The leak comes from 3DMark , where an MSI laptop with two GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards has been found and it's CPU in its configuration. It is clearly a CPU for gaming, and it is very unlikely that we will see this chip in 2000 mid-range computers or for less than 2000 euros.

The Core i9-8950HK would use the Z370 chipset compatible with the Core i7-8700K. The rest of the Coffee Lake-H processors will use the HM370 chipset mostly.

As can be seen in the specifications above, the processor has 6 physical cores - 12 threads and the base frequency is 2.9 GHz. We do not know how much L3 cache it would have. This chip would be, when it comes to market, the most powerful laptop CPU in the Coffee Lake-H series.
