Final specifications of hdmi 2.1, 10k resolution and dynamic hdr

HDMI Forum Inc. today announced the release of the HDMI 2.1 cable along with its final specifications. This new version is available to all users who adopt HDMI 2.0. The new HDMI 2.1 iteration supports a range of higher video resolutions and refresh rates, including 8K @ 60fps and 4K @ 120fps, and supports resolutions up to 10K. Dynamic HDR formats are also supported, and the bandwidth capacity reaches up to 48Gbps.

At the beginning of this year we were commenting on the announcement of HDMI 2.1 and today this new version has finally been released along with all its benefits, which, without a doubt, are a step forward to improve the resolution and amazing refresh rates.

The cable ensures high-bandwidth data is delivered, including uncompressed 8K video with HDR. It also offers an exceptionally low EMI (electromagnetic interference) that reduces interference with nearby wireless devices. The cable is backward compatible and can be used with the current HDMI 2.0 installed base.

"The mission of the HDMI Forum is to develop specifications that meet the needs of the market, the growing demands for higher performance and to enable future product opportunities, " said Robert Blanchard of Sony Electronics, President of the HDMI Forum.

Some of the technologies that have been added with HDMI 2.1 are; Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Quick Media Switching (QMS), Quick Frame Transport (QFT). All have the objective of reducing lag and annoying effects such as stutter or tearing, as well as eliminating ghosting with moving images.
